I find this incredibly amusing, there are two mixtures for Botox, the one that is used to remove wrinkles and the one to relieve pain from spastic muscles, if she doesn't know what the difference is they be able to find her cause she'll be the woman with no facial expressions!

Do we really think with the recent no bond tactic by the Dem judges there is anyone left in the county jail who really shouldn’t be there.

For once, I agree with Art Acevedo: "We're putting women at risk. We're putting families at risk."

Seems that not only are about 1,200 Harris County jail "residents" who are considered non-violent to be released to help clear the jails during the Coronapocalypse, but some criminals with violent histories are being released on "bonds as low as $1, $10, $300, and $500 this week for crimes that normally equate to $1000 or $20,000 bonds."

One example the story gives is an 18-year-old accused of punching and choking his girlfriend. Last Tuesday a judge gave him a $100 bond...he paid $10 and was released.

"'$10 bail for felony domestic violence? For choking out a woman in the middle of this pandemic. Think about it, you're now a woman sitting at home that is thinking about calling the police. Thinking about a magistrate or a judge letting your abuser out on a $10 bail,' said Acevedo."

My neighborhood had 1 burglary of a motor vehicle in January and 9 in February with one stolen car. Is that a trend?

The last time my car was burglarized, my car was locked, so they broke the window, and found nothing inside, so nothing was stolen. But I did have to pay $1000 to get the window replaced.

So its just open season on cars, locked or not.

In November we get to vote again. Beto is not running so maybe there is a chance, the outcome on Judges will be different.

Our zero-experience liberal snowflake Harris County Judge has had her orders overturned in no uncertain terms, and with no mincing of language. District Judge Herb Ritchied presented an order to Sheriff Gonzalez a few hours ago, saying in part:

"Any order issued by the County Judge of Harris County to any Harris County agency, pertaining to bonds and/or release of felony prisoners or probationers...[is] VOID ON ITS FACE and of NO FORCE AND EFFECT."

"THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED and DECREED that the Sheriff of Harris County, Texas, as well as Harris County Pre-Trial Services Agency and the Harris County Community Supervisions and Corrections Department, SHALL IGNORE and WHOLLY DISREGARD any order and/or directive from the Harris County Judge regarding the issuance of felony Pre-Trial Bonds or Personal Recognizance Bonds or any other order of release...."

Tax revenue has plummeted, the city is facing the worst budget crisis in living memory, and officials are warning to expect across-the-board cuts in city services. Last week, Mayor Sylvester Turner painted a dire picture of the next fiscal year, set to begin July 1.

“That budget deficit will be anywhere between $170 [million] to $200 million in terms of the deficit that we’re trying to close,” Turner said. “It will be the worst budget deficit that the city has faced.”

That tidbit was followed up yesterday by this story from KHOU TV: "3,000 City Employees Could Face Furloughs Under Proposed Houston Budget." The text of the proposed budget is available here: https://www.houstontx.gov/budget/21budprop/index.html.

Sylvester Turner, the mayor who supported business closures and sweeping stay-at-home orders (and who openly expressed his displeasure when Gov. Abbott's orders for by-step opening of the economy overrode local edicts), blames the $169 million shortfall squarely and only on the coronavirus.

And then from two hours ago from ABC13: "Houston Rental Assistance Program Enrollment Suspended after 90 Minutes."

The program is to help Houston renters who have fallen behind on payments due to the coronavirus. Applications opened at 10:00 a.m. today for $15 million in relief funds. Before an hour had passed, the online process had to be temporarily halted because there were over 17,000 people hitting the website at the same time. Good planning, eh? By 11:35 came this message from the non-profit assigned to administer the $15 million: "All funds for the BakerRipley COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program have been committed. Enrollment has been suspended. The site is now closed."

Not to be outdone, Harris County Judge Lina "Dora the Explorer" Hidalgo "is working on [the county's] own $15 million dollar relief package for vulnerable families, which is in the final stages of approval." Note that on neither of these programs do I see any stipulation that the recipient must have recently filed for unemployment or be actively looking for employment.

Yeppers; and he's probably pretty upset that he can't; he wishes the fiscal year were the calendar year so he could be looking at tax increases in the summer and preparing a budget in October.

Speaking of Turner's exemplary handling of Hurricane Harvey...

From April 23, Houston Chronicle: "Harris County Cedes Control of Harvey Housing Funds to GLO as Turner Fights Takeover."

The letter [Land Commissioner George P.] Bush sent Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Wednesday...said his office “can no longer allow the City to hinder the progress of recovery efforts for Houston residents.”

In the letter, Bush notified Turner that he was seeking federal approval to take over the city’s entire $1.3 billion housing recovery effort, eliminating “all funding” to the city and transferring responsibility to the General Land office. Bush gave Turner the option to relinquish control of the $400 million effort to repair or replace single-family homes damaged in the storm, and then negotiate to keep other parts of the program.

Turner summarily rejected that option, promising to mount a legal challenge against what he calls a “hostile takeover”....

And yesterday from Ted Oberg at ABC13: "13 Investigates: GLO Sends Dozers, City Sends Lawyers in Harvey Housing Fight."

Debris started falling to the ground as a bulldozer clawed away at Lloyd Nelms' red brick home in northeast Houston.... Nelms wasn't the only one tired of waiting for help from the city's program. Only 80 people have received aid from Houston's program as of March 31. More than 16,000 Houstonians have expressed interest in getting help.... The GLO called Nelms on March 25. Within less than a month, Nelms signed pre-construction paperwork and crews were out on Tuesday starting demolition to his home. He expects to move into his new two-bedroom and two-bathroom home in mid-June. "It's unbelievable," he said....

"If GLO insists on interfering with the City's performance of the Contract and its ability to administer funds directly allocated to Houston, the City will be compelled to take immediate legal action for GLO's breach of contract and the Commissioner's ultra vires conduct," Houston City Attorney Ronald C. Lewis said in a letter to the GLO.

Hello! Anybody home! In three more months we'll be "celebrating" the 3-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey and the most massive rainfall event ever in CONUS. In the 29 months ending March 31, the city had helped exactly 80 households. By my count, that's an impressively efficient processing of 0.64 applications per week. No doubt at personnel expense that's built into that city budget. If you have one person working 40 hours per week, that means that employee is accomplishing 0.016 applications per productive hour...and you know there was at least a small team of city employees on it. In total, the claims they've processed (both submitted and acted upon) represents $12.05 million of the $400 million allocated to the city of Houston expressly for residential single-family homes damaged in the storm. Lemme punch some more numbers... And that's 3.01% processed after almost three years.
