So, given the above inventory of their weapons, that explains why I have seen 2 of Clyde's 1911's.

1. Texas Ranger Museum, Waco.
2. Texas Prison Museum, Huntsville.

I have heard that at one point when they were on the run, they were known as The Lake Dallas Gang, since they were camped out on the shores of the lake formerly known as Lake Dallas, in the city known as Lake Dallas (Denton County). The lake has since been renamed to be Lake Lewisville.

According to a local source, Lake Lewisville has the highest number of BWI (Boating While Intoxicated) arrests of any Texas lake. Of course that might just be some local bragging. :-)

People back then hated banks, Many people perceived the banks as a bigger threat to their lives and livelyhood than gangs. They were blamed for the Great Depression and destroying businesses farms and ranches. I think a lot of people saw it as a war of the little people vs big business. Bankrobbers and the gangs had a lot of fanbois back in the day. Even the press appeared to cheer them on.

Hamer had a Colt Monitor, which very much resembled the BAR but was shorter and came with a pistol grip. Colt riffed off of the original BAR to create it specifically for police departments. Hamer's Colt Monitor is at the Texas Ranger's museum.

I was in there a few weeks ago killing time until I had to pick up the kids from Preschool. If anyone is passing through Waco and has a few hours to kill, it's worth the $8 admission fee.

I plan to visit the museum tomorrow. I assume it is not posted. Is that correct?

It's not listed in the 30.06 App as being posted either .06 or .07. Best I can remember from visiting almost 3 years ago it wasn't posted.

Back in the 90's I worked at a company (New Micros) headquartered in the old Eagle Ford schoolhouse, where Bonnie Parker went to school. There had been several suicides in the building, and locals often shot at the structure. I worked into the wee hours many nights. Visibility out the front door was nearly non-existent, so I would climb up on to the roof to look around before I left.

One night, after midnight, there was a concussion in front of the building. It was so loud I expected to find a crater. The front burglar bar gate rattled from the blast. We never figured out what it was. The lab where I worked was windowless, so I didn't see any flash.

Interestingly, when New Micros moved into the building it still had some debris from the 1967 Bonnie and Clyde movie. There was a chalkboard with scene planning and some other stuff. It had apparently been used for storage and meetings for the movie.

The Barrow family's gas station was still there on Singleton, and I found Buck Barrow's grave a couple of miles away.

The last I saw, the old schoolhouse was still there, surrounded by commercial development. One of the things covered up by the developers was a farmhouse and barn about a half mile from the old schoolhouse where it was said Bonnie and Clyde used to visit. Of course, there was rumor of hidden cash.

There is no doubt in my mind Bonnie and Clyde were absolute vermin.

I think the marker in Grapevine was relocated when roads were rerouted in the area. It's on Dove, if I remember correctly, and at a high traffic point where it's hard to stop, near where the murders actually took place.

I just ran across a new movie that's supposed to debut on Netflix at the end of March: The Highwaymen

Kevin Costner as Frank Hamer, Woody Harrelson as Maney Gault.

Kind of interesting to have Woody playing a Texas lawman, given the history.

I’ve watched the movie twice now, and I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed it. I also watched a video of Costner on some news show, talking about playing Hamer, and what it meant to him.

Im in Indiana right now, went to NRAAM yesterday with sister and nephew. Nephew has Netflix so we watched Highwaymen last night when we got home. Enjoyed it!
