Too little information, but does not look good at first blush.

From what we know so far all I can say is "How can this be happening?"

Problem i have is that if i see people with flashlights in my fenced back yard by my bedroom window, I'd have a gun handy as well. But the pic of the guns show a gun on the floor as it that was justification.... maybe it was after she was shot and dropped it?

Like they say on Live PD all the cops went home safe at the end of shift.

Is it normal for 10 officers to respond to a non-emergency call for a welfare check

Just to nit-pick about Star-Telegram's writing;
Smith stood outside his home as more than 20 units responded to the scene, he said. He saw the woman being wheeled out of the home in a body bag toward a coroner’s vehicle.
Technically, he saw a body bag. Unless he had xray vision, he couldn't know for sure who was inside it.

====================

I definitely empathize with Smith on the "if I hadn't called it in, maybe she'd still be alive".

Geez Louise.

Doesn’t take much to be murdered anymore.

It’s been windy with the front coming thru.

Door could have been not latched and the wind pushed it open.

Betcha the neighbor feels real bad.

Yeah, it sure looks like the police just screwed up and killed an innocent woman. Maybe she opened the doors to let some fresh air flow through her house. Just yesterday I left my back door open after letting my dog out. It was open for about an hour while I got ready for work. So a cop could have seen me in my kitchen holding my firearm as I strapped it on my belt. In the article there is mention of a gun in the house. Even if she was holding it, she was in her own home. At the time of the shooting, there was no real reason to assume there was a bad guy in that home. Doors opened does not cut it in my book.

Nope. Why didn't they secure the perimeter, have someone go to the FRONT door and ANNOUNCE themselves as police?

Officer who shot hadn't even finished issuing his directive before shooting. How can anyone be expected to comply with an order...in under 2 seconds...provided you even heard and understood it?

Very easy to 'perceive a threat' when you go in looking for/expecting one. This was handled poorly.

This is saying white officer, black victim.

Also says they have the officers body cam video and they will release it.

Says he was shining a light into her home through the window. When he saw her, he gave her orders, then shot.

Does not yet say where the gun was found.

It says that they attempted to render first aid.

Precedent set, cops can just look through your window, feel threatened and start shooting without ramifications.
