The above link is a Wikipedia entry and details the adoption of the M27 (Infantry Automatic Rifle, IAR) as the new standard for all US Marines in combat infantry roles. Other Marines will continue to use the M4.

The M27 is based on the HK416.

The USMC is changing its rifle qualification testing. When on the range, all battle gear will be worn. Targets will start at 500 yards, and will get closer as the session continues, getting as close as 15 yards, and including aiming for head shots.
