Ammunition purchased in another state, online or through a catalog can't be brought into California except through a licensed ammunition dealer under Proposition 63, approved by voters in 2016. The initiative also sets a new process and deadlines for gun owners to give up their weapons if they are convicted of a felony or certain violent misdemeanors.

After looking up Proposition 63, I think it only applies to California residents because, they are now required to get a permit from the California DOJ to buy ammo and submit to a background check. I'm not sure how this affects non residents of California while traveling or visiting the state.

The goal is that almost everyone can have a gun, but no one can have ammo. Stalin would be proud.

I predict a growing cottage industry in ammo smuggling.

Oh and the state doesn't have this process figured out yet. So from what I can tell, nobody can buy ammo in CA right now.

As I asked elsewhere, are they setting up checkpoints at each border crossing to search for ammo? Obviously, I'm being a bit sarcastic (though I don't doubt some would love to do just that). So, basically, they passed yet another unenforceable law. Ayn Rand called it...
“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.” ~from "Atlas Shrugged"

As you might know, California does have inspection stations at the border for agriculture and other things. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they start asking about ammo too.

That's right, I remember mqany trips from Las Vegas to Barstow and that checkpoint was always manned but I never had to stop.

I was ordering something online last month and the site's banner said ammunition orders for California had to be placed by the 15th because of this new law. I hope it applies to the police and military too. :evil2:

If the gun and ammunition industry got together and refused to sell guns and ammunition to any government entity in California until certain laws were repealed they could loosen the stranglehold of the liberal legislation in California!
