Article just for reference. If this passes the senate, we’re in trouble. We’re talking about pass any leftist legislation they want, pack the courts, add Puerto Rico as a state.... I have a feeling this could be the very last straw on the camel’s back.

I have to wonder if Republicans are learning anything these days. The old, "Take The High Road" approach is no longer acceptable. If we are lucky enough to survive this blood thirsty grab for power by Democrats. And then lucky enough to gain power in the House and Senate in 2022, Republicans better grow a set and fight fire with fire.

The Republicans don't have the intestinal fortitude to do what we want in Texas. They will not stand in the way of the train coming down the tracks.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

IIRC both houses have to pass it, PLUS 2/3 of the states have to vote to admit the new state.
If so, not going to happen

You might be right, the requirement of having 2/3 of the states to ratify is new to me. I guess there is some hope, but man it could be bad if they did manage to add DC.

Check out Article 1, section 8, clause 17 of the United States Constitution.

https://constitution.congress.gov/brows ... section-8/

I believe they might be able to make MOST of DC a state, but not the entirety of it. I see nothing in the Constitution regarding a vote by the other states to admit a new state. In fact, Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1 states the following;
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
Therefore, it appears it is solely up to congress as to whether or not to admit a new state.

Yep, solely up to Congress to admit. However, the fact that DC was created in the first place is a Constitutional issue that the Capital may not be in any one state. The original creation of DC included land on BOTH sides of the Potomac, taken from Virginia and Maryland. In the 1840s, the land south of the Potomac was ceded back to Virginia and only that part originally taken from Maryland remained as DC. The Republicans have offered a compromise to cede all except the land on which the Capital Building, the White House, and the Supreme Court sit back to Maryland which would give DC one Congressman and they could vote for Senators from Maryland. Thus DC for all intents would become a city in Maryland and the only residents in DC would be the President and family (who have always maintained voting rights in their home state). The Dems rejected this outright as their intent has nothing to do with giving representational right to the people who live in DC, but is a power grab to get two more Dem Senators for a piece of land smaller than most cities in the country and thus take over the Senate to jam through more of their Socialist/Progressive agenda.
