Political Forum May be Closed

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Political Forum May be Closed

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

The Political forum was created in response to Members' request for a place to discuss gun-related political issues. This limitation is routinely ignored and many threads have resulted in violation of Forum Rules. Therefore, the Moderators are evaluating the continued existence of Political forum and a decision on its future will be made shortly.

Meanwhile, any new thread started that does not relate to guns will be deleted.

I believe it is important to have forum to discuss gun-related political issues, as did the moderators who originally approved it. The need is even more apparent today with the daily attacks on gun ownership by liberal politicians. We need to share information about national, state, and local politicos who would deprive us of our Second Amendment rights. You have offered a solution to the problem stated in your post, Charles. Let's keep the forum and delete any new thread not related to guns.

No problem with the discussion of 2A/Gun political posts. Things like, well you know, need to be taken somewhere else. Two of the most divisive subjects for discussion are politics and religion. :tiphat:

Sounds like a plan. Poltiical issues related to firearms where posters have similar issues is one thing. Political issues in general can create conflict as gun owners are - and should be- a diverse group, with a variety of different interests and persuasions. Plus they tend to get heated quickly.

Most of it seems to be in-bounds of respectful. We should be allowed to disagree with each other on policies. It's Chas' preoperative if he's going to allow us to discuss things such as healthcare... I assumed that "Political Issues" wasn't limited in scope, but I stand corrected on that..

Ditto here. I am guilty of posting non firearms related material. I promise will knock it off. My apologies for not following the rules... :rules:

Hey folks, I've posted in threads that aren't gun-related, so I'm hardly pointing fingers at anyone else.

The Moderators have come to an agreement to limit threads/posts in the Political forum to those that are gun-related, as the description has always indicated. The name of the forum has been changed to further emphasize this limitation. Any new posts or threads that violate this limitation will be deleted.

Also, some may be tempted to simply start posting these types of issues in the Off-Topic forum, but resist that temptation. That forum will be closed if it becomes a problem, without the slightest hesitation. I know the vast majority if our Members won't do that, but we have a few that delight in pushing the envelope. To those who fall into that category, be advised that the envelope has been stretched to the breaking point.

Guilty as charged in that I've participated in non-gun political discussions. However in my defense I didn't realize that doing so was a violation of the forum rules. I also didn't realize that the political forum was limited to gun topics. Note that I know, I will abide. Changing the name should help.

Guilty here, as well. Thanks for the reminder, Charles, and for keeping this board as friendly as possible.

So I understand, what is the problem that you're trying to solve? Is it members being disrespectful to each other or trying to keep to CHL-related topics entirely?

The topic area was always supposed to be only gun-related political issues. We have been lax in allowing non-gun related political issues to be discussed. However, of late the amount of arguing over these types of threads has gotten too much to moderate due to some members pushing the envelope on arguing some political issues. So, instead of closing the forum we will enforce the gun-related only to help resolve the in-fighting.
