It doesn't matter to us because we're not shopping at Target anymore. This has started to affect their bottom line now.

One of the female anchors on Fox was interviewing the Governor behind some of the latest kerfluffle. This is not an issue I follow. I may have some details wrong.

The anchor was arguing that people who identify LGBQLSMFT, or whatever the alphabet soup is, aren't causing trouble so no big deal. The Governor said he couldn't believe he was having that conversation.

But what about making men welcome to go into a little unmonitored room where women partially disrobe? Not just those who are intellectually female, but any man? The terlit is not what I would consider a romantic environment, but if my currently female-identifying life partner who presents as a physical female (and quite nicely, I should add) goes into a restroom I'm not going to let some guy sashay in behind her unescorted. If some guy wants to follow my wife into a tactically difficult situation like that, I'll follow in with him.

It's my job. Hopefully the floor will be clean. My knuckles might be dragging. :biggrinjester:

We are the laughing stock of the world. People are wondering what is wrong with us when we have to fight about bathrooms. There have been family single bathrooms that they can go in and lock the door behind them. They could have used that and everyone would be happy. Look at the plumbing between your legs that you biologically have. Then go to the bathroom for said plumbing.

People online have started the slippery slope. They have posted on Target's Twitter or Facebook (I can't remember which one I saw it on) a lady said her dog identifies as human and will start bringing her dog in the store.

Target managements insists they'll continue with their restroom policy, no matter what.

Hooboy, it's going to get real interesting while their stock continues it's downward spiral...

As to the dog identifying as human, "I LOVE IT"

Let's abandon all common sense and do whatever we like.

My "Service Cats" will be going to Target with me just to look around and laugh and laugh and laugh...

I think this is all a ploy to allow women into the nice restrooms... you know, for equality :grumble

As for Target, I just wish I had one nearby. I actually get to hear English and people smile at me there, unlike at Walmart.
I discovered this the first summer I managed a public swimming pool. I was absolutely horrified at the condition the women's restroom would be in from opening to noon, and again by closing. The men's room was usually pretty clean.

We just stopped doing business with Target. There are alternatives.

My personal philosophy is this: if someone has completed gender reassignment surgery, then I guess I don't have a problem with them using the restroom appropriate to their gender assignment. But this whole self-identification business is bovine manure.

This is the opinion of Paul McHugh, MD, the University Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medical School and the former psychiatrist in chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is the author of The Mind Has Mountains: "Reflections on Society and Psychiatry".

What is needed now is public clamor for coherent science—biological and therapeutic science—examining the real effects of these efforts to “support” transgendering. Although much is made of a rare “intersex” individual, no evidence supports the claim that people such as Bruce Jenner have a biological source for their transgender assumptions. Plenty of evidence demonstrates that with him and most others, transgendering is a psychological rather than a biological matter.

In fact, gender dysphoria—the official psychiatric term for feeling oneself to be of the opposite sex—belongs in the family of similarly disordered assumptions about the body, such as anorexia nervosa and body dysmorphic disorder. Its treatment should not be directed at the body as with surgery and hormones any more than one treats obesity-fearing anorexic patients with liposuction. The treatment should strive to correct the false, problematic nature of the assumption and to resolve the psychosocial conflicts provoking it. With youngsters, this is best done in family therapy.
This article is the single most coherent thing I've ever read on the topic - and by the way, it absolutely confirms everything I've said about it all along. I'll take the scientific opinion of an MD in psychiatry who uses science instead of feelings to underpin his conclusions all day long before I'll accept the intellectually barren drivel that permeates the rest of the national discussion.
Thank you for posting this, TAM. It echoes quite well my non-scientifically-substantiated feelings on the subject. However, McHugh has the scientific chops to back them up. I love the comparison to anorexia. I'm going to remember that one.

To address the issue of shopping at Target in light of this: I will make my wife aware of this policy, and I may stand outside the restroom should she need to use the facility while I am with her. However, I just don't see this being a big issue. If it proves to be, I will reconsider my position. I do not feel led to take my business to Walmart over this decision. Both Target and Walmart are liberal-leaning giant corporations. Neither genuinely care about you or your feelings. Both simply want your money and all decisions they make are motivated by this.

Going forward, I will shop at the store where the employees are friendly, the quality of goods is on average higher, they don't feel the need to keep anything smaller than a toaster and worth more than $10 locked up, and where I don't have to listen to commercials in a foreign language while I shop. I'll let y'all figure out which one that is. :tiphat:

For the WalMart critics, I believe they are still the largest sellers of firearms in the country. As someone else noted, they don't even sell ammo at Target.

Do they sell Targets at Walmart!

One commentator has said the final goal is the removal of all morals. Anything, but having a gun is acceptable in the new modern society. And yes I think pedophilia is next on the agenda. However, it is like the frog in the warming water. One small step at a time.

Historically, I am sure there have been many transgendered and even cross-dressers (who don't necessarily identify themselves as a woman) who have used the ladies bathrooms. However, up until now my perception is that at least they have tried to "fit in" by looking as close to a woman as they could, though some are more successful then others. The goal being to do their "business" without attracting much if any attention. After all, going into a men's room wearing makeup, a wig, a dress and in heels would certainly look out of place and be an invitation to violence in some locations or situations.

With this new Target policy it is making it easier for peeping toms and perverts to satisfy their sick needs by just saying "I identify as/feel that I am a woman today". There is no need to try to "fit in" by dressing as the other sex and even if no harm is intended I feel it is wrong to let these perverts have carte blanche. These people are the opposite of the true transgendered or cross-dresser as they seem to want to attract attention to themselves as well. Also, keep in mind this Target policy does not only affect bathrooms but changing rooms as well!

There already have been a number of reports of women being filmed in their restrooms. That may not be physically harmful to them but I imagine it might have a psychological effect. In either event I don't want my wife, daughters or granddaughters to have to look over their shoulder every time they have to use a public restroom or a changing area in a store.

Liberals are always the first ones to claim, "the science is settled" when it comes to the debate on Global Warming/Climate Change/Weather.
How about bathroom doors with XX and XY on them....
That science has been settled a long time ago.

To bad the general public would have no idea what the signs would even mean. Kim Kardashian or the likes would have to Facebook or tweet something about it to inform like 80%of general population.

The problem will most likely not be with the real transgender individuals but rather the perverts that will "claim" that they are. By forcing the issue of allowing them to use the bathroom of their choice they are also opening the door for the pervs. Obviously they don't care about normal gendered individuals. Another thing they are not thinking about is how many of the "pretenders" are going in there to identify these transgender people and target them for violence. Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.

It is kind of like the 30.06 signs being posted. You might keep out the legal firearms but at the same time inviting in the bad guys.
