As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Keep an eye on Virginia

The future of Texas may be playing out in the now Democrat controlled state of Virginia. The socialist agenda is on full display in Virginia.

So they are proposing a universal background check bill to close the "gun show loophole" and it actually exempts gun shows (HB2 and SB12 on the link)? That makes a lot of sense.

We have seen some similar legislation in CT. That State is still in a stand-off if you believe the stories that there are hundreds of thousands of "banned" weapons that were not registered and there has not been any move on the part of the politicians to direct law enforcement to kick in doors where the suspected banned firearms might be. There was initially some high profile "come and take it" banter from some of the citizens and some equally forceful statements from State police saying that they relished the opportunity to bring the malcontents to justice. It has been quiet there ever since.

I don't believe that the tipping point is going to be the passage of the laws. It will be when someone decides that it is time to make examples of some of the scofflaws. Much of rural Virginia as well as parts of neighboring MD have about the same mindset regarding the Liberal politicians. I don't think that a forceful roundup is going to go well for anyone.

The "ban on training" is nothing new. It's been the law in Virginia since 1987. A lot of the blogs and voices on the internet seem to be missing this.

The additional ban in this proposed amendment to the existing law is parading or drilling with firearms with the intent to intimidate.

That said I still don't like it and the rest of the proposed laws are a massive progressive push forward.

Hopefully common sense prevails in the Commonwealth.

Let's hope that Matt Vespa and Stephen Gutowski are correct in the following articles (both are good to read):

Yet, their agenda includes magazine limits, universal background checks, a ban on so-called assault weapons, and a mandatory date to turn such firearms over to authorities. Gun confiscation is on the docket. With that in mind, scores of Virginia counties are now declaring themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries at an unprecedented rate.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa ... a-n2557219 Vespa quotes from Free Beacon article by Gutowski here: https://freebeacon.com/issues/virginia- ... g-started/

"I've never seen anything like this, and I've been doing this for over 20 years," he told the Free Beacon. "It's a sleeping giant that had been pretty much not paying attention to politics, and now they're awake, and now they're flooding these sanctuary county hearings. Flooding them."

I hope they have the ability to recall and can wait out the 2020 elections. Virginia is a clear reminder to gun owners that EVERY election matters.

I moved to Texas from VA and maintained my membership in the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) and to this day still get all their emails. If you want to follow a group that will keep you on top of gun laws in the Old Dominion, follow VCDL.

It's too bad they didn't "awaken" before the debacle of the last few elections. Might have avoided electing Governor Minstrel Show and a rapist attorney general who are both immune because, well, Democrats.

More interesting that the article itself are the comments.

It's one thing to have a dozen or so armed men show up, State Police could possibly handle that, but if a hundred or more show up Armed what then? When law enforcement is out manned and out gunned what then?

What about other weapons? They should ban shirts and pants as well for the month?? :coolgleamA:

Virginia: Bill Filed to Eliminate Right-to-Carry Permit Reciprocity!
In an unhinged effort to attack Virginians’ Second Amendment rights, one member of the Michael Bloomberg-bought General Assembly is willing to undermine a bipartisan policy advanced by the previous Democratic governor and target one of the state’s most law-abiding constituencies. H.B. 569, introduced by New Jersey native Dan Helmer (HD-40), targets Right-to-Carry permit holders by curtailing Virginia’s reciprocity regime.
Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams
