I don't know what's happening, but I know I don't like it!

I was just reading this on my FoxNews app.
Federal solicitations to buy the bullets are known as "strategic sourcing contracts," which help the government get a low price for a big purchase, says Peggy Dixon, spokeswoman for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga . The training center and others like it run by the Homeland Security Department use as many as 15 million rounds every year, mostly on shooting ranges and in training exercises.

I can see that. Hell, I know when my Troop (company size element) would go to the range we could easily expend 10-15k
rounds on training. That was just 80-90 people. I know it sounds like a lot but lets just say some individuals in the Army can't hit the broad side of a barn or on the rare occasion, we withdrew
ammo from the ASP and they told us not to bring live
ammo back. That lead to a contest to see how many 30rd magazines an individual could dump in 2 mins. The guy that went through the most got out of doing PT the next morning.
I would expect the same for any agency that trains a large amount of individuals. 1.6
billion is a lot but if it saved them money in the long run I can understand the bulk purchase.

Jury still out on this purchase in my mind. They could just be locking up supply and price like any normal commodity, plus when you consider the whole of the federal government, over five years this MIGHT be reasonable. By the same token, got to look at more specifics regarding the departments to which the ammo is being allocated. I just haven't done enough homework to pass judgement.

On a side note: I still can't understand why I was trusted with a select fire M4 with a detachable 30rd magazine (or "clip" as the liberal "gun experts" call it) while in uniform but now that I am a civilian I can't be.

I see several things & here they are in a nutshell.
1. homeland Gestapo preparing for some major "Show of Force" on the ground like they have in the air over Miami, Houston, & Beaumont.
2. Buying it all up so Law Abiding Citizens cant. Can you say sticks & rocks.
3. We need some ammo manufacturers to say NO to govt contracts regardless of whether it is #1 or #2.

U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs - they're all actively fighting Mexican drug cartels. Sometimes I fear our good guys are outgunned and outmanned against those bad guys.

1.6 billion rounds divided by 70,000 DHS agents =22,857 rds per agent divided by 5 years =4,571 rds per year per agent or 12.52 rds per day practice ammo. I could get by on that amount of ammo.

If our folks are out-gunned by drug cartels, then its because the powers-that-be WANT them to be outgunned. Any excuse anyone wants to come up with is merely that, an excuse. Playing these patty-cake games with citizens from another country invading this country to purposely break the laws and cause damage to our citizenry should be dealt with in the harshest manner...and if some of these other countries don't like it, they need to get a handle on THEIR citizens. The lives of those cartel folks are NOT worth more than the lives of our agents, not in the least. And don't think I only blame the current administration, the last one played soft-ball, too. I knew that when those Border Patrol guys got convicted and thrown in jail for shooting a drug trafficker...they should have gotten a medal.

I guess they want to make sure we don't get back up.

And then again, maybe it's
ammo for all the guns that the government shipped down to Mexico.
