I came across this on Facebook. Its the show on ABC, What Would You Do?

Here's the premise....

When a father is criticized for buying his seven year old a gun for his birthday, will customers defend him or agree with our instigator?

It starts out the way you would expect, coming from ABC, but I'm guessing they were surprised by the customer's reactions.

I'm not really sure what ABC was expecting, they did shoot this at a gun store in San Antonio.

I had a BB gun (could only use it while supervised for a year or two, though) at either five or six years old. Even had a home-made BB trap and shot a LOT in our garage. The Texas 4-H Shooting Sports program works with youth as young as eight years old. Based on my experience, you can probably imagine where my sympathies lie.

I've taken both my 6 year old and 8 year old shooting .22's. I held on to one of my .357's while my 6 year old squeezed off a couple of rounds.

How about too young to learn gun safety? What age would that be?

I taught my daughter to shoot at age 4. She received her first rifle for her 5th birthday (a gift from my fantastic brother-in-law), and she received her second one last Christmas at age 6.

I had my first before that age. It was a gift from my dad. It was stored properly, and I was supervised properly until I had proven myself safe and worthy to shoot it. I was plinking on my own by about 10. But I grew up on a farm in a time and place that seems lost and forgotten now.

Dont mean to sound sappy, but as a Texan & gun enthusiast my heart swelled with pride watching these classy, well spoken people represent who we are.

These people are a wonderful contrast to the rabid OCT crowd.

My daughter started shooting a bb gun at 4. I helped her hold and and she never had control of it by herself.
On the other hand, my son didn't have the temperment to pay attention long enough until he was 6 or 7. Still with Dad right at his side helping hold the gun.

My oldest grand daughter went shooting with her dad and I at 5. She shot my old .22 single shot rifle. At 7 she got her own .22 rifle. Two of my other 5 grand kids were not responsible enough until they were about 9 and the other 3 went with me when they reached 8 but that was only because they lived 300 miles away and I don't get to see them as often.

Same as others here, but that's not surprising given this is a gun forum. Although, I did wait a little longer until my daughter showed interest to take her shooting. Before that, I did teach some basic safety since we do have guns in the house. And she had been to the range with me a few times , so it wasn't a complete mystery to her. She asked about shooting around 9 or 10y of age and at 12 did her first IDPA match. It was a local club match and they let her shoot her .22, but she did well and beat most of the women and a few guys that day. She likes rifle better and has only done one other match since then.

I knew there would be a short window before other interests started encroaching on our father daughter time at the range. She has become very involved in fastpitch softball and plays on two different teams. She would like to play in college and do well enough in high school to get a scholarship of some kind to do that. She doesn't shoot as often any more, but knows how and knows the safety rules and can safely handle a firearm.

Both of my kids received cricket single shot 22's on their third birthdays,for the most part they stayed in the safe they "cleaned" them more then they shot them but we would go to Mima's and Papa's house in the Desert 4 times a year and they could shoot.

At 10 my daughter moved up to a ruger 10/22 and at 12 a 243

My son will be 10 next year and I'll bet ruger 10/22 finds its way home
