NRA Instructor Renewal

#1

Post by howdy »

I just got an email from the NRA that my Basic Pistol Instructor was going to expire. I took the course like most old Instructors when DPS said we needed it to renew our CHL Instructor Certificate. I have not taught a NRA course nor have I registered any of my CHL classes with the NRA. I paid the required $30 with a credit card and voila, I am certified until 2018. Is this a great Country or what?

Did not wait until I received notice, just saw that it was going to expire 31 July 2016 so went on line like you and paid and now am valid until 31 July 2018. The only difference is that I did register 3 of my TX LTC classes this past year as Non-NRA courses taught. Not a big deal.

In order to renew NRA instructor credentials, we must take a continuing education class online and we must have shown proof that we have been teaching classes. At this point, it will not be necessary to teach a class for every discipline. Also at this point, we can take credit for non-NRA classes taught. As I was told, HQ wants to make sure instructors are practicing their trade.

At this point...do you expect that to change in the future?

I have no idea. I didn't expect the continuing education requirement, but I understand why it was added. I'm not on the Education & Training Committee.

Thanks,
Chas.
