In recent weeks, more than 50 Texas Republican Party county committees have approved resolutions expressing a lack of confidence in Straus and a desire to see the House Republican Caucus replace him in the next session.
I did not know that.

Phil King is my representative and I don't think he'd be much of an improvement on Straus!

That seems to be the general consensus from a lot of Facebook posters across the State, too. We trade one charlatan for another.

I seem to remember him passing unlicensed carry out of the comittee it was in(the one he chairs). So, to say he is not an improvement over Straus is a little over the top. He isn't my representative, but I would take him over many others even if I wasn't considering his faith an important factor.

His record, according to Empower Texas, has grown steadily worse over time. My representative Tan Parker is in the same position and I would not support him for Speaker either. It was Strauss who bottled up much of the pro-gun legislation in committee over the past 3 sessions. King's record on pro-gun matters (and others) has to be more than one vote for me to want to see him with the Speaker's gavel.

Good to see Texans are waking up to Phil King. He works for special interests and has never met a tax or new government program he didn't like.

The incumbents got us into this mess. Voting for an incumbent is voting for more of the same.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

really, what I would like to see? is Strauss have a real challenger in his district, lose his seat. Then have a free for all election for the speaker's spot. If Strauss is running there can only be one other person up, if he isn't, there can be lots more.
