Wasn't there an article a few months back about one of the major carriers refusing gun shipments or anti-gun... something like that....

USPS would do. I need a rifle shipping box. I kept many for long time but now I have none anymore.
Who got a rifle shipping box that he does not need anymore? Allen/Plano Area.

I used Fed Ex to ship an NFA rifle with out any issues several times but some small outlets will not others will Staples would not even ship a Daisy Red Ryder made in the 50's and told me to leave the store it did not even work, I went to Academy and bought a new hard case to ship a NFA rifle and the box it came in and used both to ship.

Beiruty,
If you were close I'd give you one. If you didn't get an offer Google Boxes to see if you have a box store near you. As for shipping,if you have problems , a friendly gun dealer can probably ship it with the carrier they use.

I went to my local gun store and begged them for a box. I am enclosing an article which gives some great shipping advice starting on page 11.

If you like the rifle, don't use USPS unless you pack it very, very well. I see how they handle oversize, and long packages just about ever day and it's not pretty. They really hate them in those small postal jeeps.
FedEx and UPS will usually do right. But again, it's all in the packaging. Cheap hardcases save a lot of grief.
If not using a hard case: For the love of mike, please wrap the bolt separately and protect the muzzle w/ at least double what you were planning to do. I cannot tell you the number of times I've received an individual (vice FFL) shipped rifle with the muzzle sticking out the end of a box! I've also see bolt handles poking out the sides. I have unfortunately seen FFLs who should know better also fail to properly package rifles for shipping.

I usually ship UPS and have not had any problems. FYI you have to notify them if it’s a firearm and they may or may not know their own policies on shipping firearms so I would print their policy and take it with you. Cost goes up the bigger and heavier the package is so use the smallest box possible. Insurance cost adds a substantial amount to the total cost.

The local shop Gunmaster was kind enough to give me a rifle shipping box for free. I got out with few purchases in support.

Gunmaster seem like good folks!
If it were me, I would ship it in a travel case -an inexpensive hard sided, foam lined case. I consider the cost (under $20) as added insurance for a rifle I like.
If you use the box, re-read Scott B's post and heed the warnings.
Good luck!!
