Who has a Gander Outdoors store near them?

#1

Post by RogueUSMC »

Our Gander Mountain has been rebranded and reopened as Gander Outdoors. I walked in there today to kill some time...*record scratch* how did I end up here you ask?

Earlier this week, I got an email from Rifle Ger up in Plano. Their email had some good deals in it!

One of which was this CMC trigger which I ordered almost immediately online.

Also int he email was this:

I asked my wife last night if she wanted to drive to Plano. I told her we would go by the Total Wine & More store while we were there. She said that that sounded good.

I called Rifle Gear this morning and they told me they were sold out (no surprise.)

I had to meet a friend to take hand-off of my wife's Christmas present and the Gander Outdoors store was as good a place as any to kill time until he could get there.

I went back to the gun counter and they had one of these cool little guns in the case. I asked if I could check it out. While I was fiddling with it, I mentioned the deal Rifle gear had on them. He asked me if I was serious. I showed him the email on the phone. He asked if he could show it to his manager and I agreed. The manager asked if it was an in-store price or just an online. I told him both. They made a phone call to Rifle gear and were told that that was the deal but that they were out of them. The manager said that he would match the deal being as it was an in-store deal at a competitor.

The gun's MSRP is $599...Gander Outdoor's price was $499...they sold me this for $249!!!

For what its worth, I took the Rifle Gear ad to Academy here in Houston. They didn't price match because they don't stock that pistol IN THE STORE. Like many of the pistols advertised on their website, the FN pistols are shipped to the store when they have a sale. The Academy website lists which stores they will price match internet sales, which is what they consider this to be, and Rifle Gear isn't on the list.

Oh, well, I still picked up some low priced Remington 9mm while I was there.

Used to have a Gander Mtn 30 miles away in Sherman, Tx. They were over priced and understaffed. None of the new places are within reasonable driving distance (80 miles to Ft Worth and 88 miles to Tyler)

The Gander Mountain on I-45 in Spring has re-opened as a Gander Outdoors / Camping World.

Overtons bought the bankrupt Gander Mountains and are rebranding them. According to their website, the locations in Texas are Tyler, Spring and Amarillo...

That makes sense. I was one of the managers at the BIG one on HWY290 for a while and the Spring store was the most modern and well done one of the bunch in Houston.

I’m still seeing it.

Gotcha. I did see it but Out of stock. Guy on the phone told me they only price math within 50 miles of the store :( so looks like this dallas ad won’t work

I stopped by the other afternoon at the Tyler Gander Outdoors. Lots of campers and camping stuff. Spoke to one of the guys at the counter (guns of course) and he was friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were fair, nothing struck me as an outstanding deal but they did have a good selection.
He told me that Gander Mountain was bought out by an RV company, forget which one so expect that's where their interest is. But it does give us guns guys another place to shop in the Tyler area.
