Nobody but Lina Hidalgo

So the Beto/Cruz race had a unexpected consequence in Houston/Harris County Texas. There was a lot of straight ticket voting. Ed Emmott the long time Republican County Judge was replaced by a newcomer Judge Lina Hidalgo. She is a young, relatively inexperienced, dark haired female Hispanic liberal.

Obviously the comparisons to AOC were made in my mind immediately. However, since November she has stayed out of the limelight, no wild tweets, etc. I hoped quickly learning what a County Judge does.

I kinda heard some rumblings a month ago about the 2 billion dollars in Harris County Flood Control Bonds that were voted for back in August. Something about the bond money would be spent in the poorer neighborhoods in the county rather than where the flooding was, but it really didn't make a lot of news.

Well she had a press conference yesterday about this big tank farm fire we have on the East side of town. Things didn't apparently go very well.

Stay tuned.

So, she's not a "judge", but the top "executive" for Harris County? Unbelievable...seems every day there's another example that there's no way of voting ourselves out of this socialist morass.
The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

Fire is still burning.

She held her second press conference and brought more back up this time, her critics have noticed.

Mark Tice says Lina Hidalgo should speak English during news conferences. I guess there should be a nobody but Mark Tice thread, but so far he's not as interesting.

So someone said Dora the Explorer grows up, now its all I see when I see her photo. She even looks like the actress who is going to play Dora the Explorer in the new movie. (She is grown up in the new movie)

Why shouldn't she speak English at press conferences?
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

I wonder if Soros money made it into her campaign? Seems he has bought several seats in Texas recently, especially Harris County.

Very pretty (not that that matters), but I'd have guessed she was mid to late 30's. Does not look 20-something. (not that that matters either)

People smart enough to actually KNOW things (like air quality) are also smart enough to stay out of politics. It's not a hopeful situation.

https://urbanreform.org/harris-county-c ... -increase/

Harris country calls for maximum tax increase without a vote by the residents. The normal increase of 10 percent each year due to increased valuations is not enough.

Special thanks to the Republicans in Washington for making it non deductible.

Specifically Linda Hidalgo and Rodney Ellis have asked for this.

Thank you Beto. The gift that keeps giving.

Her Facebook post today on the progress they are making with bail reform in Harris County.

“We are leading on bail reform and other counties are taking note. Today at the Conference of Urban Counties I was proud to discuss our efforts to build a system where ppl aren’t punished for being poor and dangerous people aren’t released simply because they can buy their freedom.”

Lina Hidalgo wants a legal defense fund for illegal immigrants in Harris County to fight deportation. The DA wants to hire 150 more prosecutors to deal with the crime in Houston, but so far Harris County can't find the money.

And just like that it is approved by the County Commissioners.

She orders all restaurants bars and clubs to close to customers inside. Delivery pick up and drive thru ok.

No groups bigger than 10.

Yesterday she said no groups bigger than 250.

To be fair to her, the President’s admin is the one pushing for 10 or less.. asking small business to close altogether should be illegal, as it is certainly immoral. I sympathize with the Employees and waitstaff who will be bankrupt and most likely evicted due to this call

From Lina:

“BREAKING: Evictions have been halted in Harris County in March, and I'm prepared to sign an order ending them for as long as necessary. We're not going to allow families to be thrown out on the street because of #COVID19.

All 16 Justice Courts will jointly order, under their own authority, the suspension of all evictions (w/certain emergent exceptions) from now through March 31st. Thank you for using your power for the people of Harris County! Details to follow.”

Note to self, don’t be a landlord.

Okay. So I watched part of Judge Lina (aka "Dora the Explorer") Hidalgo's daily SARAside Press Conference today. There was much touching of face masks, but it didn't occur to me until the final few minutes televised on KPRC to grab a pen and keep a tally.

A refresher: If you wear a mask, every inhaled breath comes through the fabric/material, which means it becomes a collection/trapping filter for everything on the outside you're breathing in. That means touching the mask with your hands is potentially much worse than simply touching your face to, say, brush back hair or scratch your chin. Dora the Explorer's executive order for face masks to be worn throughout Harris County went into effect today; failure to comply carries up to s $1,000 fine and is technically, under GC 408, a Class B misdemeanor.

Image

My tally lasted only from 11:35 to 11:44, just after Q&A started and KPRC moved back to other news programming. The speakers were Dora the Explorer herself (her county website here: https://cjo.harriscountytx.gov/), and Dr. Umair A. Shah, MD, MPH, Executive Director of Harris County Public Health (http://publichealth.harriscountytx.gov/About/Leadership).

Lina Hidalgo: 11:35 - 11:37 - Touched mask 3 times, once was a full left-hand palm on the mask to adjust it, then she placed that hand on the side of the podium.

Umair Shah: 11:37 - 11:42 - Touched mask 12 times.

Lina Hidalgo: 11:42 - 11:44 - Touched mask 7 times; this was while responding to a question, which evidently caused her to have more nervous hand activity than she did during the prepared statement.

So in all, over a period of only 9 minutes, the county judge who issued the face-mask order and the MD who leads Harris County Public Health, reached up and touched their face masks 22 times. That means, collectively, they reached up and touched their masks an average of once every 24.6 seconds, or about 2.4 times every minute. That works out to an amazing 144 touches per hour. Without a mask on and under normal, non-coronavirus conditions, the average person touches his or her face roughly 16 times per hour. The highest number came from a 2015 study of medical students in Australia, where they touched their faces 23 times per hour (https://www.healthline.com/health-news/ ... -your-face).

Way to lead by example, Harris County! Order mandatory face masks, then proceed to, on network television in your press conferences, do the very worst thing you can do--continually touch the front of your own masks--and do so 900% more often than the typical person touches his or her face.

Good job!
