I was wondering what the members here thought about the 10mm especially the Colt Delta Elite?

I like 10mm in general and have a Glock29 in my rotation. When I picked up a Colt for my 40th several years back, I tried hard to find a Delta Elite but ended up with a Rail Gun. It's still on my wish list.

My thoughts on 10mm, yes please. Don't know why but I want one. Other than that I have no opinions.

The 10mm cartridge. :thumbs2: I’d buy a 10mm gun before I’d buy another .40 cal.

I believe that the Colt Delta Elite has some collector value. How much, I couldn’t say. As I recall, it was one of the two 10mm pistols that Col Jeff Cooper approved of.

I have 3 10mm handguns. A Glock 20 (Meh), A Kimber Custom II (:mad5), and a Delta Elite very similar to that one. The newer models have the beavertail grip safety, but function quite well. Overall I love the cartridge, but you need to specifically look for full power loads or load your own. I hope Kimber fixes the Custom II, and the glock makes for a good shooter but the Delta elite is what makes me happy.

I love my 10mm Para Ordnance. It is my main carry pistol. The Delta Elite should be similar in shooting.

The 1911 wasn't designed to handle the 10mm. This resulted in two things.

1) old 10mm pistol frames wore out in 4-6k rounds. They solved this with

2) ammo makers voluntarily downloaded 10mm.

My .357 Sig loads have more energy than factory 10mm. If you handload, 10mm is a beast. However, that pistol will not stand up to long term service with real 10mm loads.

It's a joy to shoot.

I’ve owned a S&W 1006, G20, G29 , G40 and Colt Delta. I’ve always wanted the Delta but I ended up selling it. I never could get it to run properly with handloads. I’d stick with something that can handle a lot of full power loads. The Colt looked nice but never worked well and everything else I’ve had worked well but didn’t look nice.

I know they used to have frames that would crack, but is that true with the newer Delta 10mm?

It is not, there were changes made to the delta elite frames.

I’ve got one and it is my favorite of all my pistols and the only one I reload for

Lots of internet myths and misinformation and belly button gazing certainly, frames, case support, nylon guide rods, etc

They are rock solid with any current factory loading, my favorite commercial is the Sig fun, I keep a couple mags of Win silvertip for bump in the night

Unfortunately much of the “myths’ about it come from past experience with the Delta. It has only been about 4 years since I owned mine but it was enough to steer me away from Colt. Colt tends to rely too much on their name rather than innovation and business savvy. The same company that had to file for bankruptcy sells their new single action revolvers as fast as they can make them (and yet production is limited). This is the same company who’s Python revolvers sell for 10 times more used (or more) than they did new yet they will not bring them back and will let the used market profit. The Delta has been around for a while and I wouldn’t have expected to have issues with mine but I suppose it could have been a fluke. Nevertheless I think there are better options in 10mm and being an FFL I get to see more than the average guy. I’m not saying Colt is junk but I think they are a bit behind in firearms innovation and I think there are better options for the price or better options for a little more. I would Spend more and get a Dan Wesson over the Delta or even a Springfield Armory TRP but that’s just me.

I have a Ruger SR-1911 in 10mm.
Love it.
Deadly accurate and even Mrs. Chemist can handle the recoil.

Another question? Is the 10mm and the 45 ACP same size as in using same holster, mag holders etc...?
