Cheaper than dirt price gouging

#1

Post by Tex1961 »

Saw this on another gun forum, so I went to their site. Cheaper than dirt is asking double and triple pricing for common ammo calibers. I get supply and demand but this is excessive.

They've done it before. More than once. I haven't even bothered looking at Cheaper Than Dirt since around 2012.

Wouldn't buy from them if they were the last supplier on Earth.

I have found them to be more expensive than other options on a normal basis, so I don't look there very often.

When demand goes up, supply goes down, and prices go up. When supply goes up and demand goes down, price goes down, like on AR-15s after Trump was elected. Nobody was running around afterwards offering to pay the sellers more for AR-15s just because they guessed wrong and overstocked during a political crisis. We customers (including me) were happy to "reverse price gouge" the sellers then.

I see this same post with every ammo shortage I have witness over the past 15 years. It seems to be rather common for them to do this.

I believe right after the Sandy hook panic buying CTD did this also, that was last time I bought anything from them.

I avoid CTD like I avoid the Wuhan Virus! They are one and the same.

Are they only online now or do they still have some brick and mortar stores?

I believe they are strictly on-line now. I'm like minded on CTD, I haven't bought anything from them in several years.

I haven't even looked at anything CTD related since they pulled their brick and mortar store out of north Ft. Worth. You could get some decent prices at the store, but no more.

Consumers do not have the ability (by-and-large) to price gouge legitimate retail businesses. They work with a business plan. Unloading inventory at a loss, if they chose to do so, is not likely due to the consumer. The supplier still has something you want. The balance is at what price do they suppose you will agree to.

The only thing that surprises me is that they are still in business. I guess not enough of us quit buying from them after SH. I know when folks inquire with me about on-line sources I warn them about CTD and explain their prior actions.
