Free Houston-area drive-thru coronavirus testing to start Thursday

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Chair of the Congressional Coronavirus Task Force, said free testing will begin Thursday, March 19. She's expected to hold a press conference around 10 a.m. urging residents to take advantage of the free testing.

The official name for the virus causing COVID-19 is now SARS-CoV-2. The announcement recognized that the new virus is in the same family that caused the SARS epidemic in 2003 (which also started in China). You can read the announcement at https://www.who.int/emergencies/disease ... -causes-it

So, this raises a question in my mind. If we did not need all these precautions in 2003 for the original SARS, of for MERS in 2012 even though it was also caused by a corona virus, why do we need them now? What is so different about this SARS than the first one? There are still some cases of MERS and SARS around every year. I have to think that, while we need to take some precautions, most of the current proclamations and such is an overreaction. The best experimental case yes, the Princess Cruise line where about 3500 people were quarantined on a ship with known cases, did not have serious results. Most of the people still tested negative for the virus, indicating that it may not be as infectious as claimed.

There is an old military saying that once is bad luck, twice is a coincidence, but three times is enemy action. These claims make me wonder if some people are not taking advantage of this virus to attack our economy and way of life. I am particularly concerned when i see media reports of the "new normal". If this were a real temporary emergency, how did it become normal?

Yes, I know it is beginning to sound like a conspiracy theory. I am hoping I am wrong about this and it is my suspicious mind and training. But my paranoia does not mean that there are not people out to destroy our country or way of life.

The map of Africa now seems to have sprinkling of small dots evenly spaced across the continent. Not a good sign.

There is more testing in the US and Texas so the cases will jump.

This also mirrors my thoughts. This is the greatest media event since the Trump impeachment, et. al. went dark. I think we are being manipulated - what a coincidence the market tanked and elections are in a few months.

Lord, I saw that on the news free Coronavirus testing on Tidwell in Houston starts tomorrow.

She jack will be there news crews everywhere people lined up for miles. It will be a sight, did I mention free.
It was an interesting morning. SJL had called a press conference at 10:00 a.m. onsite at the Tidwell parking lot testing site. Her good friend Mayor Turner and other cronies were there. She had announced the free drive-up testing would begin earlier...because she wanted a backdrop of her photo-op to be medical workers working and people in cars being tested.

Seems she forgot about the fact that all the logistics had to be in place before she could get her propaganda video going. The testing wasn't able to start before the press conference.:

'Course, she was visibly furious and directly blamed President Trump for the fact that testing hadn't started before the news cameras did. As if it were his fault for not personally organizing her testing stunt.

After the White House press conference, I saw some local footage of the Tidwell site showing cars lined up and waiting, stacked up literally for blocks. That's what SJL wanted us to see...despite the fact that it's stupidly inefficient and a completely unnecessary burden on our medical professionals. We'll no doubt see more video of the mess on the local 4:00 p.m. news.

Sheila Jackson Lee's plan: Have everyone and anyone who wants, line up in their cars for blocks and wait hours. There's no prescreening. Once you get to the head of the line, you pull up to tent #1 where you're questioned by medical personnel and your temperature taken. If they decide you're wasting everyone's time, said medical professionals' job is to then convince you to leave and drive back home.

Meanwhile...

Drive up free testing also began today in a Florida county, but this was organized by physician, not a career-political bag of hot air. The main difference? People used a dedicated number to call-in first, before they left their houses and drove to the site and formed a queue wrapping around several blocks. On the phone, a medical professional prescreened the callers. Those determined to be candidates for the test were given a reservation number and then drove to the testing site; hypochondriacs and those who merely sneezed one time yesterday were given instructions about either staying at home and waiting or contacting their own physicians.

In Florida they weren't interested in staging a news spectacle with horrendous lines of cars simply to point a finger at the White House and accuse it of delaying testing. In Florida, they were interested in testing people who probably really needed to be tested, and doing it in an efficient manner.

Yep. Sheila Jackson Lee really is just that transparent. :mad5

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, probably not true. But the Chinese government tells you it is.

It was a very quiet Wednesday morning in September, 2053 when Jeremy, the pilot, got up from his bed with a need to go to the bathroom. To Jeremy this wasn't just any ordinary day! This was the day he would open the last package of toilet paper his grandparents bought in the year 2020.

Take the placement of the dots with a huge grain of salt. They are centered on the country they represent. They don't show hot spots in a continent so they aren't representative of where cases are accumulating. Even the relative sizes of the dots doesn't show much beyond overall comparative numbers for a country compared to the total population. I've stopped referring to the Johns Hopkins map as much when they stopped breaking down the US by county and instead went to state.

This https://www.healthmap.org/covid-19/ has more detail and shows locations. At least, for now.
