Rattle can paint job

#1

Post by 74novaman »

Picked up a used Geissele MK 4 rail a while back. First owner had worn down the finish to make it look "battle worn", second owner spray painted it grey to cover up first guys....artistry. Because it was spray painted, I got a great deal on it.

And since it was already spray painted, I figured I should throw it onto a cheap old PSA build and try my hand at a rattle can paint job since I've never done one.

Degreased and taped off the muzzle and optic.

Went with the only three colors of flat krylon Lowes carries in my area: tan, green, dark brown

Image

Used light tan for the base coat (easier to put dark on light than the other way around for later coats).

Image

Grabbed some handy weeds from the backyard.

Image

Green for the second layer, sprayed over the weeds.

Image

Dark brown for the third layer with weeds held at a different angle.

Final product on green grass in the shade:

And in brown grass in direct sunlight:

Pretty easy project, glad I picked up a used rail that encouraged me to just try it myself.

It would be invisible in my "yard" in direct sunlight.

In all seriousness, nice job! Looks better than most camo'd guns I've seen!

I have done the same with several of my beater guns. It turns out pretty good and with a little wear it just makes it better.

I’ll probably experiment a couple more times with cheap builds, and if I like the results it might be time to rattle can the nice SBR.
