My son got married today

Post by The Annoyed Man »

Just got home a bit ago from the wedding. They're leaving for a honeymoon in Mexico, near Cancun tomorrow morning. My little fishing and shooting buddy is all grown up, got a wife, and owns his own home now. They have promised us grandchildren soon. I am happy for him, but I'm kind of sad too. You can't hold on them forever, and you have to learn to let them go just so you can keep them.

Congrats! I know it's bitter-sweet, I've got 3 camping & hunting buddies all growed up. You are also fortunate in that sometimes they just won't "go"

Only fortunate if you don't mind that. My sister's son won't go and he's been nothing but trouble for many years and now he's 21 with no sign of leaving. He was out once, but came back and dad let him.

TAM, Congratulations! Are we going to have to change your name? Or can these just be alias'? ;-)

Congratulations!

He's a very fine young man, and you taught him well.

I'm certain he'll continue to make you proud with his new family.

You have more wonderful things to look forward to with grandchildren on the horizon.

Congratulations TAM!

Just think though, soon enough you will have new camping and shooting buddies when the grand babies come along.

Congrats, TAM! Hope you hear the pitter patter of little feet sooner than later. We are blessed with 5 grand daughters from the oldest two daughters and are awaiting the arrival of our first grandson in June by the middle daughter. The youngest daughter is still at home, though, engaged no date set.

I am exhausted this morning, and I feel kind of shell-shocked. I've made more trips to and spent more time at DFW airport this week than in the previous two or three years. My mom and her boyfriend flew in Monday night from LAX. I led worship that night, and then rushed off to get them. Her flight was due to arrive at 8:30 p.m., but it was an hour late, so we got to stand around and enjoy airport "culture" for a while. It is exceedingly stimulating and interesting. NOT. She had me take them to a hotel down in the Dallas art district, where they stayed until Wednesday morning. I picked them up Wednesday morning and got them installed in a hotel room here in Grapevine.

Wednesday night, I picked up my wife's "sort of" niece (long story). Her flight from LAX arrived at 11:05 p.m., and the luggage conveyor belt leading up to the baggage claim carousel was jammed and would not work. They kept THREE planeloads of passengers waiting for more than an hour before deciding "duh, we could just put the bags on the next carousel over." We didn't get out of the airport until about 12:30 a.m........we live 10 minutes away.

Thursday night, we had the rehearsal, after which my bestest friend flew in with his wife from LAX....on the same flight number as my mom's Monday night flight....also due to arrive at 8:30 but arriving an hour late. Did the rental car dance and then brought them to our house and fed them and got caught up a bit with one another, then took them over to the same hotel where my mom was. Got home about midnight.

Friday morning, one of my son's oldest friends flew in from LAX, arriving around 12:45 p.m. I retrieved him, then together we drove over to another terminal, where my niece and her boyfriend arrived from LAX at 1:30 p.m. on a different flight. Did the rental car dance with them (which kindly old Uncle TAM ended up paying for on account of the unexpected higher rates due to their ages), drove them to our house and fed them, then drove them over to the same hotel as everyone else.

Then I got home at 3:30 p.m. (the target was no later than 3:00) so that I could get the fire started in the Big Green Egg and start cooking the meats for the rehearsal dinner which was at 5 p.m. I did 12 lb of Tri-Tip over hickory, a WHOLE bunch of bratwurst, and some chicken breasts. My wife made up several pounds of Wolfgang Puck's mac & cheese recipe and a bunch of fresh green beans. We had about 30 guests for dinner.

I was able to get some R&R in Saturday morning, but then at 3:30 p.m. I had to go help get the Colleyville Center venue decorated, set up the tables, etc., put on the monkey suit—the last time I wore one of those was at my bestest friend's wedding 10 years ago—and the wedding began at 6:00. Got home at around 10:30, after which I posted this thread.

I am exhausted.......but the airport trips start all over again today. My niece and her boyfriend, my mom and her boyfriend, and my son's friend all fly out on different flights within an hour and a half of one another early this evening. My wife's niece flies out at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, and my best friend at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. Somewhere in there I've got to return a couple of tuxes......

I'm going to sleep all day Monday.

Congratulations to you and your family, TAM! With all the negative stories posted, it's uplifting to read a personal post from a valued forum member and online friend about such a joyous event in his life. May we all only know such good news as yours to share. Sounds like you've earned some much needed R&R after this week.
