That is always good advice.

We moved to TX at the end of April 2003. Encountered absolutely THE WORST storm of our lives around Waco. Our caravan (trailer, RV, etc think "Grapes of Wrath") managed to get off 35 safely and parked on the East side of one of those cheap-but-tall motels and watched things like satellite dishes fly thru the air around us. After the storm passed, we got gas at a nearby station before continuing South and I said to a young man pumping next to me "Man I'm almost 60 years old and never saw anything like that in my life. Do you get storms like this very often?" and the kid says "ALL THE TIME!" and of course he wasn't joking. To this day I'm Really Glad we didn't move to Waco!

I think the nearest awful storm to us (we are SW of Austin) was NE of Austin, one of those "let's clear the foundation slabs of every home in this neighborhood" kind of storm. I hope we never see anything like that in Blanco County. Ever.

Seems we put up with a lot for 3 1/2 weeks of nice weather. :txflag:

I love the idea of those things, if not as a storm shelter then in preparation for the apocalypse. Or just to store wine! ;-)

I don't think it's possible to dig a hole like that though where we live. Too much rock! :smash:

I lived in Georgetown in 1997, I was mom to two young children, knew it was stormy, but "hey, it's spring. Yes kids, here's Barney". And off we went to the grocery store, one day in May, I looked at the crazy sky, noticed no one on the road, and then looked north right at a tornado, turned off Barney, heard about the tornado in Jarrell tornado, and did a crazy parking job in HEB and got fussed at by a cop (for being out in the weather) as he grabbed the babies carseat a got us into the store. I didn't have a clue  And for that, I was glad!

That FRP version looks pretty interesting.
Anyone have any idea what one of these would cost including install?

My daughter who lives in Oklahoma put in one like this after last year's storm that wiped out a big part of a community just a few miles away from her.

I had been telling her to get one for years, but it took a close call to help her make up her mind.

I was in Raleigh, NC this week and was greeted to a warm, overly humid evening when I returned last night. The humidity feels higher today. It's hard to call this "nice" weather after the mid 70 degree days with no humidity back in NC this week. :???:

If you have been out and about in the DFW area much today there has been a HUGE influx of storm chasers and storm chasing vehicles in the past few hours.

Me thinks they might be on to something....

Got my new weather radio all set up. I pray we are all safe this weekend!

Andyc, keep your head on a swivel. Severe storms should be later today but they may not have got that message and crank up early. Be safe.
