A new curved handgun from Taurus

#1

Post by TexasVet »

I just saw this in my e-mail today..
Interesting. Looks like a Kel-Tec 3AT with the clip holster and a built in laser/light. The curve seems to be only if you are right handed and want to carry on the right side..
http://www.thegunyouwear.com/

Worst thing is no sights at all.. The website says it is made with a "bore axis sighting system for instinctual shooting" .. hmmmm.. seems gimmicky..
Any thoughts ?

I was wondering when this and the usual Taurus hate would arrive here

I'll admit that it does seem gimmicky but they're trying something new and I'll give them credit for that. I'd be interested in checking it out simply because it's odd. The lack of sights is funky but I sort of understand that decision since most shootings happen at relatively close range. I'd still prefer sights even if they're reminiscent of the Bersa Thunder CC.

Also from what I saw this one is made in the USA and the stuff they make in the USA generally has a better reputation than the imported guns. Again I'd be willing to check it out because it's weird.

It's a .380, so it's got that going against it.....

:iagree:
If it was a 9mm and made by someone else, I might be interested.

Taurus was sure thinking out of the box.

How long before that clip breaks if you carried it as EDC?

It is an awkward design...definitely not a BBQ gun! YMMV.

While it's appearance is unusual I can see some possible uses for it. It looks to be made for deep concealment or BUG roles. Should be good clipped into a boot, it's shaped right to conform to ankle carry (with holster, not clipped to a sock!), and wouldn't be very noticeable when carried in a pocket. As far as the sights... I don't use sights for close up shooting anyway. We'll see how it is after it gets tested by several of the Youtubers and the public.

You can get it for southpaws too. As with all BUGs it should not be an EDC.

Since it has a laser for some sort of sighting system (though I would prefer iron sights), if it came in 9mm and the price was right, I'd give it a try. Lose the clip, and the curve would give it the right footprint for a pocket pistol. Time will tell...
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I would prefer at least a notch or a groove across the top for manual sighting. I also heard the magazine itself is straight.

I can see it for ankle carry or a pocket. For such a short little pistol, I am not sure the curving really helps. I'll try to remain open minded.

The advertising seems to be aimed toward "curved" shooters.

I think in 20 years it will be a handgun that will just be another curiosity.

And I'm not right-handed, so.......

I'd pass no matter the caliber.

I'll give it one plus note...... I noticed that the top of the barrel is relieved away from the muzzle, so that from the size, the muzzle has a slanted profile when viewed from the side. The natural effect of this would be to help tame muzzle flip. No idea how effective it is, but one wonders. Other than that, as a left-handed shooter, I wouldn't be able to carry this gun, even if it were offered in a caliber I'd carry.

Not sure why anybody would want one, there are a lot better 380's out there. Bet 2 years from now it will be a forgotten item that was an epic failure.....
