She's probably like I was; afraid of guns! This would be a good thing you can do for her while you're playing the "waiting game" for your CHL. My husband was so smart about this. He put targets up on the wall and announced to me there would only be snap caps in the gun(s) until he told me differently.
During that time I got curious and shot at the target a few times, got where I could load the magazine and put one in the slide, could unjam a misfeed, I learned how to handle and check a gun to see if it was loaded, etc., and didn't have any fear because I knew there were only snap caps in the house for right now although I was taught to check it to be sure each time I picked it up.
The next hurdle was going to the range which for me was making sure I had foam ear protection AND ear muffs! By the time we went I was completely comfortable with the gun and just used my same procedures at the range that I had learned at home. I found out I was pretty good at it too.
I began to really enjoy it and got confident that I could use it to defend myself. Maybe it would work for your honey too. Good luck in finding one more thing in common and resting easy that she's safe.
She's not afraid of guns, but she doesn't agree that she should carry one in her car to do "dog stuff". I told her that I want her to carry so that we don't have to use the phrase "Next time...", or "I wish...".

Tell her I do dog stuff too (have shown dogs for nearly 20 years) and many MANY "dog ladies" carry while traveling due to the fact that we are in our vehicles driving alone to far flung places a lot and at all hours of the day and night. I have driven cross country alone many times and now cannot believe I did it unarmed. What a foolish risk for me to take.
I generally felt safe traveling with my dogs since they are big and as I had a trucker at a rest stop in Missouri say to me once "Don't want to mess with a lady who can handle two big dogs like that by herself". He hasn't seen me handle the "herd" at home!!
But, he was "harmless". Never know when there will be one who isn't so innocent and smart. I have decided I want to rely on my own ability to defend rather than my dog's as they would probably sell me out for a hamburger or french fries.

Hello all!
I am finally finding you all after almost a month of lonely waiting for the DPS to give me the magical "processing" status. Glad to see I am not alone in my extended wait and happy to have found some experienced individuals to stand in line with.

Taking more than two weeks to go from "received" to "processing" borders on being criminal.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone and yes JSimmons, I would have to agree with the criminality of the fact that all of our tax money has made it’s way to bailouts and unwanted change, but we can’t seem to pay one more person to open the mail in Austin. (With all fairness, I am sure they are doing the best they can with what they have.)
The wait continues! In the meantime for those that love to celebrate your second amendment daily, check this youtube video out if you haven't seen it already. Oh the smell of gun powder.

It’s better to wait with others, even if you can go it alone.

Congrats milo, that wasn't to long of a wait. Hope the rest of your waiting is as short. And now you can officially check your status allllllll you want. I'm doing better. I'm only checking like 6 or 7 times a day now.
