Now that should end this debate of carrying in restaurants and other places of bidness. :tiphat:

I saw an old western movie where a dog carrying a double-barrel shotgun limped into the saloon and said "I'm lookin' for the man who shot my Paw!"

Not to reinforce slavery but rather to limit the influence if it. The slave owning states wanted all the slaves to be counted.....why....more people=more representation. The 3/5 compromise was to limit the influence of those states that had huge slave populations. It did not strengthen slavery or legitimize it, it weakened it.

That was the purpose of the 3/5 compromise.
Right. It still permitted slavery which directly violates the 5th Amendment.

Me too. I thought the 13th Amendment was the one that abolished slavery?

It abolished slavery, but the 5th was violated consistently by the state and federal government for every slave.

In Westerns and many other genres on the silver screen, the only times I recall people concealing their guns was when they were planning to cause trouble.

How much do you trust Hollywood when it comes to guns?

I got the joke and thought it was funny. Did want to note however that carrying a firearm was prohibited in many western towns within city limits. Those coming into town were required to checkin their firearms and they picked them up on the way out. Despite Hollywoods fascination with the six shooter, it was not nearly as desirable as a good rifle.
