Hope everyone stayed as warm as possible. We lost power for about 14hrs so we consider ourselves to be very fortunate. We have our own well and all stayed in tact except for a busted irrigation line, but that’s outside obviously and an easy fix.
Thankfully we both hail from colder regions and have been in this many times before. That said, -4 is cold, even for North Dakota. Anyone who says otherwise is full of it.

This storm-of-the-centry seems like a preview of the-end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it. Apparently I have too much time on my hands and have spent some of the time:
- adjusting my Hurricane Prep plan to include Winter Storm
- trying to figure out a way to 'harden' our house in Houston

Had a change in gender this week. Not on purpose, it just got that that cold.

Electric prices have returned to normal.

Just so your aware, the Republican Government of Texas through it PUC decided that the open market was not causing a sufficient amount of energy conservation among residents and businesses who were on a variable rate plan, so they artificially raised the price of electricity to $9.00 a KWh from the rate it was at the time which was $1.20 a KWh.

That immediately made a windfall for the electric providers in the state and turned every variable rate consumer in Texas into a Democrat for the rest of their lives.

Looks like I chose wisely on my electric plan... and gas heat and no laundry this week kept our usage to a pretty typical level

I need to find an article that explains in Texas English how not having enough power pushed into the system would damage it so that it will take months to fix it.

I searched youtube for an explanation and the same guy is in a bunch of videos. The guy looks like a Kook sent up from general casting.

The areas Texas not covered by ERCOT were barely affected. Most outages were short: minute to a few hours. Very, very interesting.

El Paso was one o’ those areas, but it wasn’t as cold and it didn’t last as long as the cold in the middle of the state. There were public warnings and requests to conserve power from El Paso Electric Co. Also, I don’t think we’re as dependent on wind and solar.
