09/22/12 - CHL class completed
09/23/12 - Completed online application
09/25/12 - Mailed completed packet
09/28/12 - Packet received by TX DPS
10/01/12 - Fingerprinting done
10/16/12 - Background check/review pending

Now I feel alot better.

Waiting for the online status to update is the clunkiest part of the process. I sent my packet by certified mail, so I knew when they received it. But it still took a couple of weeks for my online status to update to "Received & Background Check under review". Then it took several more weeks for the status to update to "Background Check complete, Manufacturing". If you're like the rest of us, you'll get really good at signing into the dps website & you'll probably have your TXDL number memorized by the time that your plastic is in hand.

I already memorized my TXDL 3 days after they received my packet. lol Just gonna be patient.

I find it odd but fascinating the difference in how quickly the the DPS updates for different people. I had my class on 09/22, fingerprints on 9/28, and mailed my info on 9/29. My status still shows as waiting on receipt of materials. Weird.

At least the easy part of checking is the DL/SSN/DOB. I memorized my DL shortly after I received it (lo, these many years....) and my SSN from the days when HS and colleges use it as your student ID number. After almost 40 years of reciting them that is the easy part. The one I can't remember is my wife's DL.

Thought I should throw my hat in the ring here. Took class 10/7/12, fingerprints 10/10/12, mailed 10/11/12. I am assuming that since I just moved here a few months ago that it may take longer for them to do my background, but I could be wrong. Here's hoping it's done by Thanksgiving!

I sent my packet in the week after you. I was hoping the status would be updated this week. Guess not.
I have been checking 3-5 times/day. I'm the optimistic type.
