This topic comes up so often, it needs to be in some kind of sticky FAQ. Everyone seems to be rehashing the old ideas, varied as they might be.
My observation over the past month or two on this forum is that many of the people here have only recently applied for or acquired a CHL, and may be still in the stage (as I am) of becoming educated or illuminated as to the whole "gun control" and "gun laws" culture and idealism. Perhaps at this time, many of the participants on this forum are enthusiastic about their newly-formed opinions and have not been around long enough to have heard them echoed by numerous other people over and over.
I am continuously perplexed about the laws regarding CHL in TX... they don't make any sense. I think this debate is largely fueled by the confusing and contradictory laws on the books. Many of us just see that there is a far simpler way to deal with this. But the same is true for nearly everything. Simple never seems to work out in the legislature on the state or federal level. IMHO the whole CHL law and process in TX needs to be tossed out and redone. There is no shame in realizing that you have to throw together your best first draft, and sometimes after trying it for a while, you have to chunk it and redo the whole thing since you have learned a lot of lessons on how to do it better. But it seems lawmakers are immune to this logic.
