I stopped at a LGS today after a range visit. The salesman pulled a new Ruger LCP out of a Ruger box with a label that said "LCP-TEX" Also, on the side of the box it was marked, "For sale to Texans only." Inside was a Ruger LCP with a Texas Star on the top of the slide near the rear sight, and a coyote howling with a full moon in the background near the front of the slide. On the sides it said, "Coyote Special." The were NOT decals, but screened onto the slide. If this is NOT a Ruger factory deal, then kudos to the savvy marketeer who thought this up. Sorry for the lousy cell phone pics.

You & me both, Mike! :txflag:

That'll be a collectors item overnight methinks. And I'd buy it in a heartbeat on that assumption!

Coyotes don't howl, but: still. Yeah, that's a great piece of marketing. They should sell a bunch, if they only charge a small premium (about $50 over MSRP of the standard version).

Come out to the north end of Grapevine lake. They chatter and yap that is true, but they will let one fly and his buddies will join in from time to time. It is chilling. FWIW, I believe any canine can and will howl under the right stimulus.

My wife got this email today:

Governors of two states jogging...
with their dogs along a trail.

A coyote jumps out and starts to attack the dog:

California:
#1. Governor starts to intervene and then realizes he should stop; the coyote is doing what is natural.
#2. Call animal control. Animal control captures coyote and spends $200 testing it for diseases and $500 relocating it.
#3. Call Vet. Veterinarian collects dead dog and spends $200 testing it for diseases.
#4. Governor goes to hospital and spends $3500 getting checked for diseases from the coyote and getting bite wound bandaged.
#5. Running trail gets shut down for 6 months while wildlife services conduct a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is clear of dangerous animals.
#6. Governor spends $50,000 and starts a coyote awareness program for people who live in the area.
#7. State legislature spends $2 million investigating how to better handle rabies and how to possibly eradicate it.
#8. Governor’s security agent fired for not stopping the attack and letting the Governor try to intervene.
#9. Cost $75,000 to train new security agent.
#10. PETA protests the relocation of the coyote.

Texas:
#1. (Not complicated enough to need a #2.) Governor pops a $1.23 .380 ACP Gold Dot Hollow Point and drops the coyote.
He and the dog keep jogging.

And we wonder why California is BROKE… or any other liberal/democrat run state, county, or city. Go figure !

#2 TexasCHLForum members debate about wasting a rare and expensive .380 instead of using a more appropriate and cheaper 9mm.

Ahhh you can always find Speer Gold Dots in .380-It's the target ammo that's hard to find.

We hear them (yotes) on the South end of GV lake as well. Every now and then I'll see one in the park (Oak Grove), there's some deer and miscellaneous other small woodland creatures in there too. FWIW - my great dane HOOOOOWWWWWWLS like crazy......when an emergency vehicle with the sirens on goes by....I think he's "taught" the other dogs in the neighborhood how to do it....LOL

From the "almost never wrong, mostly right, sometimes incorrect, giver of all almost correct information in the universe - Wikipedia"

Communication

The calls a coyote makes are high-pitched and variously described as howls, yips, yelps, and barks. These calls may be a long rising and falling note (a howl) or a series of short notes (yips). These calls are most often heard at dusk or night, but may be heard in the day or in the middle of the day. Although these calls are made throughout the year, they are most common during the spring mating season and in the fall when the pups leave their families to establish new territories. When a coyote calls his pack together, he howls at one high note. When the pack is together, he howls higher and higher, and then they yip and yelp and also do a yi-yi sound very shrill with the howl.
