You need a regular hunting license and then a permit for each gator. Permits are issued by the state to landowners. The number of permits issued depends on the alligator population survey they turn in. I'm certified by TPWD to perform the surveys so I get a permit in trade from one landowner.

DOH! your right....It is a CROC. It's still HUGE and bigger than 12 feet. I thinkin 18ft at least.

Very nice. Its amazing what some of those farm ponds have lurking.

A friend of mine took this one with a permit for his land last season. Not quite the monster of the OP but still not what you want to bump into while duck hunting.

Texas Gator Trivia:

Some time ago (probably DMN, Dallas Morning Snooze) I read that out of
the 254 counties in Texas, the easternmost 120 of them contain gators.

That seemed like a high number of counties to me to contain gators.

There's been a story around for some time that Lake Lewisville (north of
Dallas) has gators, but this seems more like a scary campfire story than
fact.

They are a lot more common than people think. And they have no problem moving from lake to lake via rivers and creeks. They don't even mind walking a mile or so at times.

The late Monte Stratton of MLB fame had a few free range gators in his pond just outside of Greenville when I was growing up. There have always been gators in Tawakoni, and I saw a little one, maybe 4 to 5 feet, on the bank of the Sabine River in Greenville when I was working on a bridge crew back in 1984. The guys I worked with claimed they saw slides and other gator evidence (old hatching nests) all the time up and down the Sabine and its tributary creeks.

Never heard of any gator attacks on humans in any of those areas. I think the biggest worry with them is they will eat your dog if he likes to swim.
