I will spend my money where the government respects my right to buy medicines at half the U.S. price without a note from an overpriced doctor. :patriot:

That stuff's not always safe. The hospital I worked at tested some "penicillin" that a patient had brought in, and thought were making her sick. It turned out the capsuled were full of talcum powder.

I knew that objection would come up, but I think most of these complaints are unfounded. I am sure that it has happened, but many of the drugs in the US are made by foreign companies. In Mexico and most other countries the medicines come in factory sealed packages so that tampering would be very evident. I know many seniors who routinely cross the border into Mexico to buy medicines that they can't afford in the U.S. and haven't had problems. In many other countries [Japan, Malaysia, India, Singapore, England, Canada, Australia] you can buy drugs in pharmacies without a prescription for much cheaper than the U.S.

Otherwise, even a single round of pistol ammo in your trunk can land you in jail.

Mexico isn't our friend - for a variety of reasons - so I have no plans to go there.
You forgot #3...

$$$, and maybe one more $, donation to your local Mexican (pick your poison) official...And walla!

But this is a bad idea, because its illegal, and there are no guarantees...So I would not do it on a bet...

So totally forget what I just posted! Mi mue loco de cabaza!

Well, i go to Mexico alot to hang out with friends and hit the bars on weekends.

Even recently, never had a problem, even with parking my car late at night. I believe what my friends tell me, that the BG's usually fight amongst themselves for turf and/or foreigners who stick out and flash their money around.

I just hang out and have fun, been going since 1991.

They might say that, but they would be wrong. It's perfectly legal as long as they are not controlled substances, are for your personal use and you declare them.

It's not smuggling, and it's perfectly legal. I'm leary of it because of my nursing background. I guess it's just something that was ingrained into me. WildBill, you're probaly right. I'll be the first to admit, I've seen MANY more good meds than bad meds from Mexico. In fact, the packaged ones probably are 99% safe. The really scary ones are the concoctions from the curandera's (basically herbalists and folkloreish home remedy makers, I probably didn't spell it correctly). If it works for you, keep on keepin' on. Because you're right, the prices of medications here are insanely outrageous.

Edited: Dang, sorry about the hijack D.R.T. I'm done.

Actually, I haven't been to Mexico for quite a few years, but it still upsets me how much we pay for our medicines. Several years ago I was buying an Alzheimer's medicine for my mother from India because her HMO insurance was maxed out and wouldn't pay for it. I paid around $500 for the medicine that cost $1100 per month in the U.S.

My apologies, also, for hijacking this thread.

I knew someone who accidentally carried across the border (Forgot the had a gun in the car). They got searched and caught. They were held in a mexican prison and beaten. The federalis put a machine gun next to his cell (Where he could get it easily if he wanted to, less than a foot from his cell) and walked about 15ft away and turned in the other direction, just daring him to pickup the gun and shoot him. His brother took $10,000 to try to get him out, and the cops took the money at gunpoint, and he barely escaped....

Then again, my dad used to go on hunting trips in Mexico and have his passport signed by a high ranking general so noone would ask questions about his shotgun (For dove hunting)... And none did (When they saw the signature).

I would never carry in Mexico though, ever....

The only thing that I can add on-topic is that when I got my CHL, I went first, without pistol, to the Mexican Immigration desk in Juarez. There I was told without doubt that no, I could neither import, nor carry in Mexico, a pistol or ammunition. I did one time legally declare and import a pump type pellet pistol for a stepson down in Torreon.
