Sock drawer works for me. Then again, I dont have kids in the house. Sad how times have changed. When I was a kid, all the guns were in an old fashioned unlocked gun cabinet. We knew better. Same way when my kids were young. Ive always believed that a big part of teaching kids gun safety is taking the mystery out of the guns.

I do have a safe to keep the other guns in, but my Kimber sleeps in the sock drawer within easy reach from the bed.

I am also leary of the biometric ones. I have one on my dell XPS m1330 laptop, and is is really great, but every once and a while it takes a couple or 3 swipes....The push buttons work first time every time which is very important for me on a gun safe

I used to keep mine on top of the nightstand and then I moved it to the drawer because I got to thinking that if someone actually made it into my bedroom without waking me up they could get the gun off the nightstand and kill me with my own gun! Then I realized that the drawer would be the next place they would look!

Then I moved it to under my pillow with the idea that I could get the gun without so much as moving ever slightly and also it eliminated the thought of getting shot with my own gun......

Same here, my Brother took me out and let me shoot his shotgun once when I was a kid. seeing an antifreeze bottle go from complete to only the handle and lid in a flash will teach you they are not toys. Not to mention if I EVER got caught touching my Dad's rifles or pistols...

We'll just leave it there, I knew better.

I'll probably do the same with my kids, take them out to a range or field and let them pop off a couple in to a watermelon (I hate watermelons) or maybe a side of pork. My CHL instructor said he did that with his kids, because it would actually have the same properties as a person without the jail time; he said it worked.

I am starting to agree with the biometric lock, I also had a laptop in the past with one and sometimes it can take a couple of swipes; not to mention if you are accessing it in the middle of the night when you suspect someone is in the house I doubt one would be able to swipe their finger in a nice controlled motion.
