Unless you're willing to train in Israeli style carry, of course you keep one in the pipe.
A friend, who is also a Krav Maga instructor, carries regularly but for various reasons, does not keep one in the chamber. But he's practiced enough that he can chamber one in a fraction of a second, says he can even rack the slide on an opponents face if he's grappling.

I don't know why you are suprised....it's a common word for a barrel and a word that you used yourself in the initial question. Have fun with that search button!

Yeah, just hope you don't get part of his face stuck in the ejector port.

At least one of my 1911s, my bride's XD, DPMS A-15, Shotgun, Garand. Most of the rest of the guns remain unloaded, I figure if it can't be done with one or the other, it's probably time to just roll up in a big ball and die.

I don't have
all of my guns loaded at home, but certainly the ones that are practical for self-defense. The Marlin Model 60 (.22 rifle) and the Mosin-Nagants aren't something I would use for SD. The .22 is fairly self-explanatory, and as I live in an apartment complex, there's too much liability in using the Russian rifles, as they'll penetrate even brick walls with relative ease. I have the shotty loaded up with 00 Buck at all times, and all of my pistols are ready for action (unless being cleaned, of course).
As far as a response to the OP, yes, I carry all my pistols with one in the pipe. My main carry is a Hi-Power, carried condition one - cocked and locked.
