Lots of folks actually get quite a bit of use out of a holster before their plastic comes. It's a good exercise to wear it around the house, going about your routine and getting use to it, to moving with and sitting and standing and bending, all in the privacy of your own home. It can make you a whole lot more confident and less self-conscious when the day comes and you do get to wear it out in public. :thumbs2:

:iagree: I waited a month or so after submitting my application to order holsters. Didn't expect DPS to start picking up the pace, so now I have my plastic but am still waiting on delivery of a few holsters and a gun belt. Making due with "off the rack" pocket holsters and off-body carry until I receive my stuff - so you might want to go ahead and start shopping while you wait.

You talked me into it. I just order a Crossbreed Supertuck.

This waiting room is really nice... such pleasant art work on the wall... oh, and a TV too!
Wait, this is my house...

Just thought I'd stop by and have a 'sit' with everyone else.

Welcome. Make yourself at home. Be sure to get up and walk around a little bit, or your legs might go numb waiting.

I will keep you posted. After mailing the paper application certified mail, I wish I had completed the online application---perhaps that would make it a faster process even though the rest would still have to be mailed certified.

Oh well, too late now. It will be interesting to see whose license will process sooner--DH or me. I would think with the alias name a lot of us women change with marriage, it might take longer for me. We'll see!

I just sent mine off yesterday and I didn't register online either. And now I wait......... :grumble

I heard a rumor the other day in the CHL class that when your letter comes in certified they put it at the bottom of the stack to be processed. Is that true or what? I sent mine certified haha.

I am a male that went through a name change about 10 years ago and didn't notice any lag in my application...

...and I also sent my application certified. :smilelol5:

With my ex-wife now waiting on her plastic, I find myself wondering what the magic combination of attributes and application method will actually yield a shorter wait time. Almost every theory that I've seen as to what will get it done faster has an exception to the rule that I've seen on this forum. Maybe they throw darts at our applications and decide to process the ones they hit?

our instructor made the statement that we should just send in our packet regular mail, apparently due to the high volume of mail they are receiving, they dont really appreciate having to deal with all the certified mail.

anyway, thats what i did, i guess we'll see. i did notice that it has taken exactly a week from my status to change from "application mailed to applicant" to "processing application."

I'll second that. I went by the local Drivers License office in Hurst and picked up a postcard requesting an application and mailed it to Austin. When I received the application packet back I went looking for a class and found Crossfire's available that weekend. I signed up for the class online and got the next to last spot.

Here's my current timeline:
Took class: 8-16-08
Mailed: 8-18-08, 1:00 pm
USPS certified-mail confirmation Austin delivered: 8-20-08
USPS certified-mail Utah confirmation delivered: 8-21-08
Utah license received 10-16-08
Texas CHL received 11-17-08

I was visiting the June Applications board and I noticed that the two most recent CHL holders had their application processed in 74 and 60 days respectively. So it looks like our friends in the DPS are getting the staff they need from the State and things are improving! :txflag:
