Zero rounds? I guess you don't remember 7.62x39 shortages about a year ago. Or have read about the bills that keep being introduced that would ban ammo as we know it (lead, primers, "armor piercing", whatever excuse they want to claim). I don't think anyone said anything about a civil war. Personally, I like having enough ammo for all calibers that I shoot so that I could weather any temporary shortage with a minimum of hardship and so that a ban wouldn't leave me with a useless weapon. Oh and in the case of any state of emergency the first thing they do is prohibit ammo sales (were you paying attention during Rita? Ike?)

Ammo was easy enough to find prior to and immediatly after Ike. Only in Baytown did anyone attempt to restrict. Baytown doesn't deserve to be in the state of Texas. I don't recall any problems getting Ammo during Rita either, but I wasn't paying real close attention.

I have 1200 rds of .223, and about 1400 rds of .45ACP. I would like to double in the near future. Only thing I'm short on is 9mm, and I need to stock up .308s.

You don't need a refrigerator to keep fresh food in or a pantry to keep canned goods in either I suppose.

I also suppose you can go buy a firearm the next time you are confronted by the boogey man since you don't need to keep one until you need it.

You can always dial 911 when you need LEO and they are only minutes away.

Unless you are capable of predicting the future you cannot say what it holds, and just in case you have been tuned out for the past 7 years, there is a large group of people who live only to see us die and this country destroyed. They're called terrorists.

Regarding no civil war in the rest of my life, I can't say whether that will or will not happen given the current state of our society and its continuing decline. Our next president has some pretty dangerous ideas regarding what the American way of life is and what our constitution means. I would rather be prepared for the worst case scenario.

As for the original question, I think you should buy as much as you can, not only because of the threat of shortages and cost increases but also because of the uncertainty regarding the future of this country.Socialism / Marxism is the flavor of day with the new administration, and Obama's position that the constitution should be thrown in the trash because its flawed is downright scary.

Chance favors a prepared mind, and I for one would rather have the means to defend my family and the American way of life if it ever becomes necessary.

As of this writing I have 5k rounds of .223, 1k rounds of .40 S&W, 2k rounds of 7.62 x 39 and about 500 rounds 12 gauge 00 buck, I intend on purchasing more this weekend

I say buy as much as you can while you still can, and pay CASH!

First off, you sound like a very anti-gun person. Brady bunch infiltrator? Second, varmint hunters will disagree with not needing .223 (there is no zero), for anything but the range or military use.

Now, as for enlisting. I served on active duty for twenty four years and nineteen days starting with the wee-weeing contest in Vietnam.

One more little tidbit. The military uses the 5.56mm NATO round, not .223 Remington.

I try to keep 1k rounds of .223 and 9mm in stock. I'll shoot up a couple hundred of each, then go stock back up again. I figure 1k round is a good stash to ride out any ammo $ increase.

about 3500-4000 rds of 9mm. I have no idea on .22lr but it's over 1000, 500 rds of 7.62nato.

1 round of 40S&W I found on the ground at the range.

I am no Anti-gun. I owned assault rifles since 1984. Bro owns too many guns to list. The younger bro, the wealthy one has all its wealth in shotguns, very expensive shotguns. Dad is also an officer too.

The point that I wanted to make that after soon-to-be President Obama was elected. People were driven to load up on assault rifles and Ammo as if the ban and restriction on Ammo will get into effect as of Jan 21 09. Some feared civil war would erupt. I do stock on some Ammo enough for personal and home defense and range needs.

I'm curious... How do you define assault rifle, a selective fire small arm? Do you have a tax stamp for that guy? Assault rifles were not even part of the expired AWB. Many were confused about that, but they are covered by other laws. Can you only buy one made before 1986, I think that is the date, and you need a $200 tax stamp to buy it.

Hehe, properly stacked -case quantities of ammo can serve nicely for chairs, tv stands, tables, etc
