Sroth......if I'm not mistaken, you are LEO correct? Thanks for the positive support. You may want to read up on the laws regarding the time span the State allows from your last Misd. conviction though....
I think this is exactly why the state says a misdemeanor more than 10 years ago is not a disqualification for a CHL.
Its actually only 5 years. I am assuming you knew that, but got confused when I said I haven't been arrested in 10 years......

§ 411.172. ELIGIBILITY. (a) A person is eligible for a license to carry a concealed handgun if the person: (1) is a legal resident of this state for the six-month period preceding the date of application under this subchapter or is otherwise eligible for a license under Section 411.173(a); (2) is at least 21 years of age; (3) has not been convicted of a felony; (4) is not charged with the commission of a Class A or Class B misdemeanor or an offense under Section 42.01, Penal Code, or of a felony under an information or indictment; (5) is not a fugitive from justice for a felony or a Class A or Class B misdemeanor; (6) is not a chemically dependent person; (7) is not incapable of exercising sound judgment with respect to the proper use and storage of a handgun; (8) has not, in the five years preceding the date of application, been convicted of a Class A or Class B misdemeanor or an offense under Section 42.01, Penal Code;

Furthermore I dont know where you guys keep getting 4-5 years from. I never specified the time span. Just so the LEO's here and LEO types won't treat me like the common criminal, let me clarify. I got arrested the first time when I was 17 for a DWI in Texas, last arrest was when I was 27. You do the math. 20 arrests is really not that many. However, I understand it's more than the average person. I lived a fast paced young adult life and partied hard. Don't regret a thing actually because I am in a very good spot currently. Everything happened just the way it was supposed to, so I could be in the position I am today, with the much needed knowledge about life and my responses to it.

You are right though Steve, me changing my life had absolutely nothing to to with the criminal justice system. I changed because of God's grace and for the simple fact that I wanted to change, nothing more. I appreciate this forum and everything I learn from it. Thank you.

Yes, Newlife, I am an LEO. And that is where I actually got the confusion on the time from. I was thinking of the requirement for a peace officer, which is ten years for a Class B (never for a class A). You are correct, of course, on the five years for a CHL.

Maybe. Maybe not. It depends on your reference point. I can see why someone who has never been arrested in their whole life can think that twenty arrests sounds like a lot.

Although I have only been arrested once for public intoxication and I would never ever want to do it again "Jail SUX" I came from a very troubled past from living with my dad (bad druggy), Although I hate him for what he put our family through, I still a kind of glad of the childhood that I had. It forces me to make myself better I'm the only Male in my family on my dad’s side to ever graduate high school and the only person in my family with a college degree... Although I've only been to jail once (I guess I just never got caught) I see where you are coming from when having a rocky past and turning your life around and getting to place in your life you can be proud of... I applaud you for your efforts to better your life *BRAVO* alot of the kids that grow up with everything and never have any conflict are the ones usally bankrupt or just plain in trouble with law because they have no real life experence to learn from, you other guys need to leave him alone until you have stepped back and walked in his shoes.

Back in '62, I chose to break the law and was thrown in the 'pokey' for illegal possession of beer in a Nashville city park. When I called home for some assistance, my mother chose to hang up on me. Since then, I have chosen to avoid situations and people who could cause any further arrests. As someone else said, "Jail SUX".

Choices, choices, choices. :tiphat:

I could just as easily have been in jail several times, mostly fast car related stuff like speeding which led to evading... I attribute my clean record to God's grace, good driving, and good ability to judge whether I can run and make it. :evil2:
