Big 5 Sports often puts the Marlin 1894's on sale for around $330-$360. If you get their email flyers you can spot the sales. You may have to keep after the store to get one in for you but you can do it.

Charles,

Oh! I never thought of that, I assumed that cycling the lever was what was tearing them up.

biggyin,

Many people like Lyman receiver sights, or tang sights on their lever guns. Longer sight radius, and the "peep" helps with depth-of-field.

There are some web sites that discuss modifications and upgrades, but I can't find them now - bookmarked at home. One is:
http://www.levergun.com/articles/Race_Tuning.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but it is not the one I was thinking of.

EDIT: But this one is! http://marauder.homestead.com/files/TUNING_M_1894.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Enjoy your new lever gun!

Well,...........I joined the 1894C Club today! :thewave

On the way to me from NY is a early model 1894C with no checkering, gold trigger and no safety!

I can shoot this next time my Son visits and he is shooting the LAR-15! :smilelol5:

Now....I guess i'll look for a nice Python to carry along with the rifle!  ......maybe I better just carry the 642 or the Mod 36 I already have........ :smilelol5: :smilelol5:

I took a couple of the office supply "fingertips", you know the little rubber fingertip things some folks use to flip thru multiple sheets of papers...

One on the thumb, and the other on the index finger was enough to protect and ward off the wear and tear on them while loading...I flipped the index finger thing in my pocket when I went to shoot...I kept a few spares for each finger in the range bag...

To save my knuckles I have two ways to protect the top of them...One is some cheap leather gloves (the ends of the fingertips I cut off) I bought to operate the pumping station on the fire apparatus I drive, and the other is that if I do not have those well broken in gloves, is take the lever and grab it with the hand and cycle the action that way, instead of using the top of my knuckles...

One thing is for sure, you either develop strong hands and tolerant knuckles, or figure out how they used to do it back in the day before all these semi-autos and the like...

BTW, I have the Marlin 1895 .45/70 and I love that riffle to death!!! It's my hog killer!!!

The only upgrade I made was to put a set of Williams Firesights on it...Granted it is a little more expensive to shoot, but it works for me...

I think everyone should look into getting one of these types of rifles...Not only will it get you back to basics...It is something that for a while was believed (in my opinion) going to be hard to ban somewhere down the road...

And the prices are pretty reasonable to boot...Mine followed me home for about $460 NIB...The sights were about $25...Ammo runs about $29 a box of 20...At least for .45/70...

Well,......

I ended up getting one of these puppies to go with my Marlin.

Now, all I need is a horse and I'm ready to "Bug Out" when the time comes! :txflag:

have one of the first ones.,. great for the 125-125 rule. 125 lbs or 125yds. It would be the last one to trade. It is a great complement to my 39M Mountie in .22 LR. I worked up a laod for coyotes using a cannelured 9mm 115 gr.JHP bullet and H110. Excellent out to 75 yds. Was "minute of Coyote"; did not exit. I replace the adjustable sight with a Marble White Diamond and it is good to go..

Reloader,

What model number Marble White Diamond did you get for your 1894C and did it work well with the stock front sight with gold bead?

I would like to get one but I am concerned about getting the correct one to work with the stock front sight and also to have the correct dovetail size. Here are the ones available (with windage adjustment):
Style Description Sight Height Mfg#
Windage Adjustable #69W .360”-.460” 006910
Windage Adjustable #69WH .460”-.560” 006911
Windage Adjustable #69WEH .520”-.620” 006912

So, which is the correct one for use with the stock front sight on a 1894C (non hooded, gold bead front sight)?

Thanks! :tiphat:

Here's the setup I have...Granted I do not do much picture posting so let's see how it turns out...

The Hog Killer:

One view, probably a poor example, but in real life the sight picture is phenomenal:

And a high-elevation, maybe a better picture:

BTW, I transport the rifle with the front sight hood in place...When it is time to get to business, the hood comes off, and the light gathering capability of this sight system really stands out...

Actually what I find interesting is that the digital camera is a great example of what you should actually focus on when you get your sight picture established... ;-)

Maybe I'll get better at this picture posting thing soon...

My front sight has no hood. It is an early model (1981) and did not come with a hood (as far as I can tell). I believe the hooded models have a larger base to the sight for the hood to fit onto.

That looks good and that is what I want to do to mine if I can just find out the correct sight to order from the list in my post above.......

In case you weren't aware, Marlin offers a hood with a cutout so that you can have protection and light gathering.

AEA, I didn't mean to upset you. I do not go on the board except every few days. You should contact Brownell's. I did this over 25 yeARS AGO AND DON'T REMEMBER which one. Brownell's will tell you; that is where I got mine from in 1982.
