April 16th should be a day when both sides of the campus carry issue come together to remember those who died. Douva can correct me if I am wrong, but SCCC specifically DOES NOT hold its week-long open holster protest over the week of the anniversary of VT, because to do so would be to use the deaths of those involved for political gain. These are exactly the same kind of unscrupulous tactics that the Brady Campaign to Ban All Guns uses, and must not be associated with our movement. If we were to sink to this level, we would be no better than the gun-grabbers. The official SCCC Open Holster Protest is the week of April 20-24. I suggest that all who are able protest then and not during a day of national mourning.
Yeah, I was aware of that. For that reason, I was planning on being low-key. (I didn't mean to imply anything but that.) I just wanted to observe. Sure, I had thought about holding up a sign, but that's probably not the right thing to do. I agree that using that day to advocate anything political is extremely tacky.

Oops - I didn't realize that the date's the anniversary. Had I realized that, I never would have suggested holding a sign or doing anything else that would be inconsiderate of those who died.

HA! According the the Daily Texan (http://www.dailytexanonline.com/student ... -1.1720208" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) a whopping 200 protesters turned out. On a campus of 50,000.

A 200 person gathering at A&M barely constitutes would barely fill one half of the Dixie Chicken.

Follow up...

I still believe it would be important to respond according to any direction of the SCCC next week with the "empty holster" campaign...

If the state coordinator and the UT campus coordinator with the SCCC can respond, I believe there would be a few of us willing to tag along on any effort they choose to do next week...

I've got some time... ;-) And I have a few extra holsters to loan out if anyone needs one...

Still, it is just a suggestion...

During an family lunch on Saturday, my sister-in-law told us that she was taking part in her first protest. The protest is a walkout at UT because of some legislature to allow carrying on college campuses. She expressed great concern over the thought of people bringing guns on campus. I can't recall the exact conversation, but she was not very open to the idea of people exercising a constitutional right.
Ask her what if they took away her right to Freedom of Speech and the right to Protest.

Sorry about your SIL and her failure to understand the importance of self protection. Sorry about your FIL with loose lips. However, I think the tradition of asking the father for permission to marry his daughter shows respect, courtesy, manners and good breeding on your part.
Ditto. I asked my FIL for permission, and The Annoyed Woman and I have been married a little over 20 years now.

I think that a "counter-walkout" with empty holsters is a great idea.
