Kind of on the same lines. This morning I stopped at a quickie mart by my house. I noticed they had a 51% sign in the window right above the sign saying it is a crime to consume alcohol on the premises. So I asked them about it and explained what the 51% meant to me as a CHL holder. Come to find out the TABC had just been in there and gave them the "posession of an unlicensed handgun...." signs to replace the 51% sign. :hurry:

Great find. Thanks for the links. And also for making the title obvious when searching. :-)

I'm meeting some friends next week at a restaurant & bar, and am trying to determine if they are a 51%+ permit or not. The search link shows that they have a MB (Mixed Beverage) permit, but the only subordinate listed is PE (Beverage Cartage).

Am I correct that there is no way at the TABC website to tell if this is a 51% license?

Is there another resource at TABC to find this out, or is contacting the restaurant the only course of action?

Thanks.

Correct, lack of a FB does not mean it is a 51% location.
You can call the TABC and ask, the have gladly given the information over the phone in the past.

I tried looking up the Johnny Rockets in The Woodlands. cant seem to find any record of them at all. Tried the address and general search of the area through the link you provided. I would sure be interested to know since i can not see then selling more in beer than in food & shakes. I guess I will try to call TABC later. My father in law loves that place and always wants to go when he is in town, but obviously since i can't carry in there its not my top choice.

Johnny Rocket's locations are not 51%. I think they may have had a 51% sign posted at one time, but TABC was supposed to have contacted them and have them put up the unlicensed possession sign (< 51% sign). I have never been, but I am not even sure they have a license and/or serve alcohol.

Has anyone checked on the Paramount Theater?
They have a 51% sign behind the bar, but as much as tickets cost, I can't see any way that they make more than 1/2 of their money from alcohol. Seems the TABC makes it easy to figure out alcohol + food as other revenue, but not ticket sales, bowling or other places that have bars.

I'm just repeating, but reportedly alcohol is the larger dollar amount. No word yet on if the bar areas were "diagrammed off". Thread at:

Hope this helps.

So I looked up a resturant (high-end steakhouse) that I like to vist from time to time which has a 51% sign posted and their license under subortinates was listed as LB which from the TABC handbook says: "Permit authorizes a Mixed Beverage permit holder to sell mixed beverages until 2 A.M." The Mixed Beverage permit stats: "Permit authorizes the holder to sell mixed drinks from unsealed containers and wine, beer, ale and malt liqour in containers of legal size for on-premises consumption."

I guess the only way to find out if they are a legit 51% site of not is to call the TABC and check. This just says their allowed to sell mixed drinks and that they can sell them until 2 A.M., not that the generate more than 51% of their profits from the sale of alchol for on-premises consumption. I doubt that since their selling their cheapest steak for $40.00 that they are a legit 51% site.

The only sure way to tell from the publicly available database is if the license has an FB (Food and Beverage). If FB is there, then they are definitely NOT a 51% location. Anything else or lack of the FB is not an indicator one way or the other. The only way to be sure then is to contact the TABC and have them check, or look at the physical liqour license at the location to see if it says SIGN=RED (51% location) or SIGN=BLUE (non-51% location).

I know they had the sign in their window that they had applied for their alchohal license and a month or two later that sign came down and the 51% came up. Haven't been lately but now I will go check next time I'm in the area to see if the 51% is down. Thanks for the info.

Found their license info. They are licensed as Wilson Commissary Supplies LLC. License number is BG710300. This shows wine percentage as 17%. If they listed themselves as a 51% business, I can almost guarantee they are not. A call to TABC to check their status in receipts would probably be in order. Best bet is to check their license if you go in. :thumbs2:

I'm sorry if I don't understand, are you saying that wine sales are 17%? The BG definition is confusing but if you read the BQ definition right below it uses the same wording but there is more to it. I read it to be 17% alcohol by volume and doesn't have anything to do with sales. Again sorry if that is what you meant and I am misreading things.
