I'd be more impressed if he'd actually got behind the two bills that were effectively killed. Did they do anything besides waste perfectly good oxygen this time?

Yeah, I have to agree. I was very disappointed in the whole bunch.
I can not believe he didn't help us out and pushed a little harder. What a shame to get so close, yet so far.

Any thing he could have said publicly only would have emboldened the Democrats. The people that held up our bills aren't the people that are likely to change their behavior because Perry wanted them too. Perry kn ew the only chance to break the logjam was for the legislature to resolve internally. remember Perry was the the first politician to pubblically cal for campus carry, it was in a way his bill.

Gov Perry lost my respect and my backing with his handling of the open border issue. The cherry on top was his ads to get reelected...."I'm the only one that has done anything about illegal immigration" then one week after getting voted back in, turned belly up and to the illegals and Mexico.
He speaks a good game, but rarely does he mess his hair with a fight (or even standing up for what he thinks is right) Immigration and these current gun bills only prove my case. This RINO will no longer get my vote nor my money.

Maybe this is part of his plan for reducing the state budget; stack the paychecks out at, say, 500 yards. If you can get yours and get back to the firing line, you still have a job.

Thing is, the State of Texas has the same three branches of government as does the U.S.: the executive, the legislative, and the judicial.
The executive branch in Texas state government is responsible for the administration and enforcement of state law. It consists of statewide elective offices: the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller, and the land, agriculture, and railroad commissioners, and includes most state-run agencies.
The Texas legislative branch enacts all statewide law. Like the federal legislature, the state legislature is comprised of two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate. In Texas, this branch also includes several legislative staff agencies and oversight boards.
The two branches are created separate as a check and balance.
So your statement, "I'd be more impressed if he'd actually got behind the two bills that were effectively killed," makes a completely false assumption about how our State government operates. I have no doubt Perry would have signed the bills if they'd reached his desk but, guess what, he had no direct involvement with them
getting to his desk...that's the job of the legislative branch of government.
Perry has been extremely favorable--consistently, throughout his term--to laws relating to RKBA. Check his record.

His making a lot of noise about the bills could polarize the Democrats and have a direct opposite effect of what he wants to accomplish. Being an effective politician is often just knowing when to make a lot of noise. and whe to hold your tongue. Perry is a master of both.
A case in point. Holder starts talking about AWB causing Pelosi to openly claim she isn't going to go after the guns..Congress responds by giving us the National Parks Carry . I'm conviced that Holder is actually an inside plant. He really can't be that stupid. Can he?

You underestimate the stupidity of people in power. If he was smart and capable, he would be in the private sector earning an honest living.
