some times when i'm at places , i feel like i'm the only one carrying .

then i start to think how many thousands of Texans are getting their CHL's every month .

You probably are, USA1. But I have a feeling that's about to change. Albeit slowly. If last years numbers were about 3.5%, I wonder what this years numbers will look like? I'm anxious to see them.

Wow...lots of interesting stories here. Mine is real boring. Grew up around guns and hunting, had them all my life. I carried concealed for many years with no CHL. I would try to pick and choose the most dangerous occasions to carry since there was always some risk of getting caught. Back before CHL was a possibility, carrying under the belief that trial by 12 was better than carried by six was not uncommon. I knew many folks who took the chance and exercised their RKBA. Anyway.. i have had two different situations where a firearm was needed by me for self defense. Both occasions I was in or near my vehicle so carry under the traveling rules kept me from getting in trouble. One occasion the troopers swept it under a rug, since nobody got shot and the other was ruled self defense and no charges since I was in travel mode.

A year and a half ago I decided to stop worrying about big brother having my name on file as a gun owner and went ahead and got my CHL. The irritation of the government giving me "special permission" to have a handgun for self defense was hard for me to overcome. Heck...it still ticks me off. Just who the heck do they think they are...these government goons are suppose to be our employees but they act instead like they are our keepers or something. Good night nurse, this is suppose to be America. I think I am mellowing with age....maybe just getting worn down.

i tried to "stay off the grid " too .
but theres just no way around it ...unfortunately .

during my class ,
the lady sitting next to me acted shocked that she had to submit finger prints and photos .
she was seriously considering leaving .

she felt like it was nobody's business if she wanted to carry a gun .
( i kinda agree )

Yep...your right. I own a business now and have many people who count on me to make the right decisions. Getting arrested and jailed for illegally carrying a firearm could be putting all of them and their families livelihoods at risk as well as mine. I just could not take that risk any longer.

I was raised to do the right thing and protect my family.
As a boy scout i was taught to be prepaired, so a CHL was natural. :txflag:
