What I tell folks that ask about carrying a SA vs a revolver is real simple.
If in the event of a combat situation, are you practiced enough with a SA in the event of a jam to be able to clear the jam in 2 seconds or less without panic?
If the answer is no, or gee I don't know. Then carry a revolver and be worry free.

It is proven that most people (over 90%) will freeze in a fight or flight situation. I am very comfortable carrying a SA. I have for over 25 years. I am ex LEO, former SWAT and have more hours on the range than I could ever recount.

Be familiar with whatever you choose to carry. Don't be duped by the knock down power myths. I can kill you just as dead with a .22 as I can with a .44.

If you choose to carry an SA buy a quality gun. All I own are H & K, Glock, and Sig. I have never had any of them jam on me yet.

Currently carry it in a DeSantis Nemisis that was designed for a PM-series Kahr semi-auto, but works well for a Smith J-frame. But if my pants and/or pockets are a bit snug, it prints a bit in the Nemisis.

As I've posted elsewhere, given the choice between carrying one of my two .380s or my 642 Airweight, the S&W wins out overwhelmingly. I keep 125 grain +P Golden Sabers in mine, mostly because that was the +P load I could find at the time. I don't worry about accuracy at all. I can hit a man-sized target center of mass at 10 yards with it, and that's all I really need it to do. For that matter, I'm not likely to shoot anyone beyond that distance with any of my other, larger, more accurate pistols either. I am confident that I could clear a jam in my Kimber or USPc if I had to (they don't ever jam), so that is not really an issue for me. What IS an issue is that, the more anemic the carry caliber, the more critical it is that the pistol be dead reliable. It is hard to get more reliable than a revolver. Cheap .380s don't offer that kind of reliability, and that is why I don't carry mine.
