Well, I think you should give him a variety of options instead of just one suggestion repeated over and over.

So, I suggest:

Taurus 1911
Springfield 1911
Kimber 1911
Smith & Wesson 1911
Sig 1911
STI 1911 (Texas made)
Les Baer 1911 (if you have a LOT of money)

Variety is, after all, the spice of life, right?

No question...XD40SC. Why learn another gun when the controls and size of the .40 is a match to the 9mm. If you want a .45 I can see going to another smaller gun but maybe a XD45 Compact is what you have been looking for. That XD45 will be my next gun and the .40 XDSC will be the one after that (for now anyway). I tried the little 1911s and they were not for me. You may see things differently but giving up number of rounds for weight and having to learn new controls is just too much of a hassle when the XD is such a darn good gun, the price is good and it won't spend more time in the shop than on your person. That is my opinion. :tiphat:

Except them ugly 'ol Glocks.

I have a M&P 40c. There's a lot to like about it. Including the price, when compared to 1911s.

I generally carry a HiPower primarily because I shoot it better than anything else I have tried until recently. I recently bought a full size M&P 45. I love it. It has a great trigger, 10+1 rounds and you can change backstraps to fit your hand. And I actually shoot it better than the HiPower. I recommend that you try one out.

Since it has only been mentioned obliquely -- try out a Hi Power. Comes in 9mm or .40. Doublestack mags, but handgrip is still not too thick for smaller hands. Points wonderfully. Very flat and conceals nicely, even for a full size pistol.

You are right...but IMO as long as its a 1911 its good! If I had to make a suggestion it would be Springfield or if you feel wealthy Ed Brown!
