I can't find .45ACP or .380 at the Wal Marts I frequent, Cedar Hill and at MacArthur/635 in Irving. I did find 4-5 boxes of .380FMJ and there "was" a box of .45FMJ at Bass Pro Shops around lunch time today. Each box was $21.99/50 rounds.

walked away with 2x100 Round Winchester White Boxes full of .40 S&W FMJ and they had about 10-12 left on the shelves int he Academy in Cedar Park. Wal-Mart was able to pick up acouple of boxes of .40 Federal FMJ. Even got my hands on some .38 Monarch for cheap

I scored at Academy a few weeks ago, they had just put 1,000 rds of WWB on the shelf. So my new P238 has 400rds to chew up in the ammo stash. Before this I was down to one box of AE and two boxes of Hornady Critical Defense .

I've been able to scrounge up some .40 from various places all through the drought, all though quite expensive at times. But through frugal shopping over the last few weeks and the somewhat relief in the ammo drought I've brought that stash up to around 600rds.

As far as .223 I just pretty much gave up on finding reasonably priced ammo. Caved in and bought a few hundred rounds at a ridiculous price(compared to about a year ago)

And for the ol 7mm SA Ultramag its always been a ammo crisis for that rifle ever since I got it. But scored about a month ago and found three boxes on closeout for $24.95 each(usually near double that if they even stock it). I was down to four rounds by the end of one deer season

Wal-Mart on N Beach & N Tarrant in Ft Worth had a lot of .40 but no .45 :(

Haven't looked at WM or Academy lately since I started reloading , but there is TONS of ammo at the gun shows. You just gotta decide if you want to pay their ridiculous prices.

Part of this is just plain old free market Capitalism. Supply and demand is some of it. I'm hoping after everyone who can pay $50/box is served vendors will look at those who want to pay closer to $20/box.

You are correct. Their stuff, they can charge what they choose. I can also choose not to participate in their stupidity as well. Capitalism works both ways.

I'm not shelling out extra bucks because these "Free Market" Guru's scammed the local Wal Marts,Academy's, Cabellas, ect by sending out mutiple family members and hijacking the Stockers before they could put it on the shelves. Overall the extra cash they put in their pockets hurts gun owners everywhere, less ammo=less shooters=less people who go shooting= less support for our "life Style"

Academy in Humble had some WWB 100 rd boxes of both 40 and 380 yesterday. I think that the 380 was $37 and the 40 was $34.

No 45 though.

I'm just always on the look out for cheap 9mm or .45 rounds, because having a ready supply makes it easy to go practice whenever I want. I've noticed that whenever I hit up the Grapevine Bass Pro Shop range or the FW Cabella's, they are usually pretty low or out of the plinking cheap FMJ stuff, but some expensive HPs are sometimes laying around. Actually, now that I think about it the Cabella's north of Fort Worth usually does have a nice stock of the cheap stuff, and with a 2 box limit it seems to stick around a little longer.

That gets me to wondering, why are people buying so much ammo? Are they preparing for the "End of the world" and if so, wouldnt they want Better ammo, not the cheap stuff? blind fear and greed lead to stupidity

Yeah, the MacArthur/635 one is the one near where I live in Hackberry. I can find plenty of .40 there, 50 for $13.97...

I have plenty of components for reloading, but I can't find small pistol primers in stock anywhere to save my life.

I went to 4 different DFW Walmarts (Mid-Cities and Irving areas) yesterday; they all had good stocks of .40 but NO .45 or 9mm. I guess that someone in the market for a new gun might think about a .40!

lol, We think alike Chuck! I'd even consider a Five-Seven since I ALWAYS see stacks of that ammo everywhere I go. Judging by that, I'm guessing pretty much no one in Texas owns that gun!
