I wouldn't be surprised if that was a valid price. I got my son his Marlin .22 with scope included for $149.00 just a few months ago at Gander Mtn.

i went to the dicks here the day the sale started and they sold one at that price right after the store opened - contacted the regional dept and put up signs explaining the error

I was going to buy a 10/22 until I read on a .22 rim fire forum that they're poorly made. At one time they were made well, but that's no longer the case according to what I read.

After reading that, I looked into other semi-auto's and according to many of the reviews, just about all U.S. made semi-auto .22's are poorly manufactured and are jam-o-matics.

That being said, I've yet to buy one and have no clue what to get.

Are the reviews right or wrong - I don't know...

I suspect that it may be more of an issue with cheap .22 ammo myself. My son's Marlin certainly does not appear to be poorly made.

if we read the same thread it was comparing a $200 gun to a $1300 gun.... Im not surprised that $1300 22lr snobs didnt like the 10/22

And 22 semi auto rifles have been picky about the ammo for ever. I have a 20+ year old AMT Lightning which is a knock off - its will not feed the hyper velocity rounds. The reason is the way they make high speed rounds is to make the bullets smaller - the smaller bullets dont stack well in the magazine and dont feed well.

I bought a new 10/22 in last 6 months, one of the new design with the plastic trigger components (ugh). But it has been surprisingly reliable and accurate for a stock gun. Only problems I've had are with aftermarket banana mags, none of which will cycle a whole mag worth without some sort of problem. But I now have six of the Ruger 10-round OEM mags and have never had a single problem with mags. Every Ruger firearm I've ever owned was picky about only factory mags, so doesn't surprise me.

A 10/22 is like a GI model 1911. You can use it box stock, and it will work, but half the fun is replacing everything except the receiver.

A 10/22 can be picky about mags and/or ammo.

It might like only factory mags. It might like only plastic aftermarket mags. It might like only aftermarket mags with steel lips.

It might only like standard velocity ammo. It might like only hyper velocity ammo. It might like only W22 or only Fed Bulk Pack or only Rem golden bullet. It might like 2 of those 3 and not the third. Last one I had in my greedy hands loved the Federal and Winchester but couldn't make it through a full 25 round mag of Remington golden bullets.

Pretty much any issue you encounter with one can be fixed by finding what ammo/mags YOURS likes, or going with some after-market 'upgrades' to make it reliable with everything. This seems to hold true with most 10/22s I have used built from the mid 90s thru current.

Personally, I can't hold onto one, but I can't get rid of my old bolt action from the 70s. Personal preference. But man is it fun to blast thru 25 or 30 or 50 rounds of ammo in one loading.
