Thanks for all the good suggestions so far. Yes, I was 'aiming' for mostly gun-related movies. I could have gone for the whole listing at imfdb.org, but that seemed like a bit much.

I see that no one picked up the not-so-glaring attempt at misdirection that was Paul Blart, Mall Cop in my OP. That one is on my "must-not-see" list. Many of the suggested movies I've seen, and many of those I need to see again, or just get on DVD and be done with it. It is good to see several movies get multiple nominations. How long has it been since I've seen Red Dawn, and how could I have forgotten it? I'm looking for both 'period pieces' (SPR and Road to Perdition were great) and some of the mindless stuff (Shoot 'Em Up and Smokin' Aces are on the short list now). Bond and Bourne are always good suggestions, too.

I have yet to see Gran Torino, even though I've heard how good it is.
I actually preferred El Mariachi to Desperado (Salma Hayek not withstanding) - something about the purity and originality of it.
Bourne #3 has been sitting on top of the TV for months. Maybe I'll finally get a "round tuit".
Letters from Iwo Jima is there, too - the companion to Flags of Our Fathers, which was very good.
Then there's Blazing Saddles, which I have to pull out as regularly as A Christmas Story.

No one mentioned The Magnificent 7 with yul bruner (the first one not the sequels), I think Dean Martin is in there as well. There is one place in the movie where one of them makes the best pistol shot I have ever seen. Has been years since I saw that movie. Looking for it on DVD.

You haven't seen Gran Torino? You gotta correct that. I don't think anyone said Reservoir Dogs. Pretty much anything by Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino is good. How about Sin City? I don't know if it fits your criteria, but as an example of technically good movie making, lots of action, and far more than it's fair share of hot actresses, you can't go wrong.

Gran Torino is a must see. Heck, almost anything Clint Eastwood has ever been associated with is a must see.

I'm the opposite on his WWII movies. I've seen Letters from Iwo Jima (phenomenal) but for some reason never got around to seeing Flags of Our Fathers (now I'll need to put that one at top of my list).

Meryl Streep plays the part of a girl that was not very well loved
by her family. Practically ignored by her husband. Suffered the
loss of her plantation (fire). And always did the right thing (even
in the face of humiliation). And then Robert Redford invited her on
a trip out back (before it disappears). While looking for game to
feed the camp, they stumble into a small pride of lions. Robert
Redford instructs her to drop flat if any lion charges. When one
does charge, she holds her ground, waits, and shoots. After all she
has been through, ain't no way she is going to bow down to a
charging lion (my favorite scene).

Starting to stretch my brain capacity here, but a few more popped in:

"Ronin", staring Robert DeNiro, is a good crime caper movie set in Europe - double crosses, gun fights etc.

"Mr. and Mrs. Smith" is a cheeseball movie but has some interesting gun fights (including the fight between Mr. and Mrs. inside the house)

"Collateral" staring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx is good.

"True Romance" written by Tarantino but directed by someone else has a good gun battle at the end, and of course includes Tarantino's mandatory three-way standoff

"The Professional" - a hitman cares for a scared little girl after her parents are brutally murdered by the bad guy, then helps her plot her revenge through a high-powered rifle scope

"The Way of the Gun" - I've only seen bits and pieces, but plenty of gun play obviously.

"Lord of War" - not a lot of gun play, but a very interesting plot involving an American of Russian descent who rises to become one of the biggest arms smugglers in the world (next time someone tells you Mexican drug cartels get their "machines guns" from straw buyers at US gun stores, show them this movie

Exception: Bridges of Madison County (whatever was Clint thinking? My action hero in a sucky love story!) Not my idea of a REAL Clint Eastwood movie.

Plot: An African American mafia hit man who models himself after the samurai of old finds himself targeted for death by the mob.

I do love me some Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Still haven't seen Inglorious Basterds (or however its spelled), but just about everything else I have. Too bad you can't watch movies while reloading - I could really double up my quality time.

On a lighter note, the 1984 comedy, "City Heat", a prohibition era gangster movie with Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood. Both have an endless supply of guns, but every time Burt pulls one out, Clint pulls a bigger one.

That's what weapons cleaning is for. Blackhawk Down or Band of Brothers has become part of my cleaning program.
