"rlol" Exactly. But beyond that, thugs do what they do because they get away with it. No other reason. They stop doing what they do when they A) get shot; B) get arrested; or C) both.

The value of the thing being hijacked is not the point. The point is that we can either allow it to continue, or we can stop it. It's that simple.

Now, there are situations where I'm going to let the thief get away. If it is the middle of the night and someone is absconding with my lawnmower, I'm not going to go charging out of my house to confront him out in front of my house, because I don't want to surrender the tactical advantage of staying in the house. But in a public parking lot, you have no tactical advantage, and unless you can get away, there is nothing to be gained by refusing to confront the bad guy.

I'm not very nimble; I can't run; and I can't fight; nuthin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees. I've got no choice but to confront force with lethal force. That is part of why I have my CHL in the first place.

Just somethin else to think about with people who have an iPhone.
How much personal info do you have on there?
Names and address of friends and family, financial documents and account numbers, work related items, etc.....
I couldn't afford to lose my iPhone. On top of losing the 500.00 I paid for it when it came out I would then be in a vunerable situation to have my identity stolen.
Personally I wouldnt have this problem because I'm pretty cautions with passwords and codes and keep limited sensitive info on my phone but I know there are a lot of people out there that this could happen to very easily.
By stopping the BG you potentially save yourself more hassle down the road.

I agree 100% with The Annoyed Man.

Though I believe that everyone should learn some form of martial arts for your initial defense I don't want to fight my way out of a situation that could turn south in a heartbeat. A knife, tripping to the ground, a second person in on the attack and you are nothing but a statistic. I have had my CHL in three different states over several years and I will not hesitate one moment when I am put on the defense by some thug. They care nothing about your life and will leave you to die with no remorse. I am married and have children that depend on me for everything in their life. You cross the line with me and I will come at you with everything I have.

That's all I have to say about that.

NORMAN:

I'm glad that things worked out OK for your son in this instance.

Since he has a CHL, a gun, and Wal-Mart is not a 30.06 site, this
should be a very strong reminder that his gun should be ON BODY,
not in the car.

As longtooth says, "Carry 24/7/365 or guess right."

A CHL should be armed everywhere that Texas law allows.

It's these kinds of things that just reinforce my deep desire to attend one of Mr Cotton's "Use of Deadly Force" classes. There's just so many variables that can be thrown in there when after the fact someone can be second guessing what you could have or should have done different and end up with totally different outcomes. Clearly deadly force wasn't needed in this case to diffuse the threat. At the same time, a different BG with a different mindset could have made waiting till he grabbed the arm too little too late.

I think I know that unless I saw a weapon of some sort, or even if he had his hand in his pocket like he might have had a weapon and was close enough to be a danger I might have pulled my CC in preparation to change his mindset. I believe the taking of another human's life would absolutely have to be the last resort for me for several reasons...not the least of which is knowing I'd have to live with me for the rest of mine. It just emphasizes how much responsibility, both morally and legally, comes with the carrying.

Dunno about the iPhone, but 'droids have this nifty app where, if the phone is stolen, you can call your number from another phone, enter a code, and immediately lock/wipe your phone where ever it is. Your backed-up info can be re-loaded into a new phone at your convenience. I'd be very surprised if iPhones didn't also have this capability.

Sometimes it all boils down to principle....I would not hand over my Iphone, my wallet, my watch, my keys etc..etc...etc....
If a POS wants it, he has to take it. He had better want it bad!

Not macho, just wanna be left alone and refuse to be preyed upon by trash!

Semper Fi.....

Thanks for the heads up!

Now, home to change out of this monkey suite and make a midnight run to the local wal*mart for some groceries.....

I believe the BG's vocal request for directions and the use of the phone, was just that, vocal requests (and maybe a "test").
However, as soon as he grabbed your sons arm it amounted to
physical assault and your son reacted in an appropriate manner. It sounds like your son's judgement call
at the scene to meet force with force, rather than deadly force was a wise decision. I'll bet your son would have
had no quams about raising the bar to deadly force IF he had felt the need. Glad it all turned out OK.

P.S. should have called 911 to report the BG's aggressive behavior, or at least informed Wally World management of the incident.

If I was taking my trash out and someone grabbed my arm and told me to give them my trash, I'd "stop" them.

...grab my/his arm... :headscratch

Is the arm that is grabbed on your CCW side or is it the arm carrying the merchandise? These should not be the same arms, if you get my drift?

gigag04 , You've yet to respond (maybe you simply haven't had time yet?) to inquiries requesting clarification on your input, so please, enlighten us, as I'm not at all certain what you're getting at?

Are the various good guys responses unlawful...?

Or, were some lawful and others not?

Or were you referring to the punch-out scenario?

Or what...?

Thanks!

Deadly force is not justified in this situation. If the BG grabbed my arm I would just blow one of his knee caps off. :fire

Seriously, I wouldn't want to explain to a jury why I killed someone over a cell phone. You would have to prove that loosing your phone is a threat to your sustenance. If the BG has no weapon and is not a martial arts expert I would not want to be standing near the body when the PD shows up.
