I'm in Houston and if I'm not at work, its shorts and t-shirts or fishing shirts, flip flops, or Chuck Taylors. However; my family has several hundred acres in Junction that I try to "escape" to as often as possible. The only time I have shorts on out there is when I step outta the truck coming in from Houston. As soon as we unload, it jeans and boots for the rest of the trip. I have had a cactus thorn go through a pair of reef's and it is not fun. I have ridden an ATV through a mesquite patch with shorts on and lost nearly a pint of blood from unclothed legs

Some things you only have to do once. Between scorpians, cacti, mesquite, and other assorted thorny shrubs, I will keep my legs covered in denim and my feet in heavy leather.

Plus I get to OC at the ranch.

I've heard it "If it does'nt bite, sting, stick, or cut, you bought it at the Wal-mart."
Makes me wonder; Why did'nt we give the Brahma a stinger? Then he would be just about perfect.

Growing up in west Texas will make you tough, or just plain mean. I was raised in Cross Plains and Abilene.

I wear shorts inside my house. Anywhere else, it is wrangler jeans and boots. Long sleeve shirts, if I plan on being outside for very long. Rarely do I go outdoors without a hat or cap. I can handle the heat and sweat easier than sunburn and thorns.

It is all about the humidity. Growing up in Houston, I would wear shorts every chance I could during the summer because jeans would make me miserable. The high today is 106 in Lubbock and I've been working outside in jeans and a western shirt no problem. I will probably quit wearing my pearl snaps as much when I move back to Houston.
105 in West Texas is better than 90 in Houston

As a fifth generation Texan, born and raised in Fort Worth and points West, I always wear Wranglers, boots and undershirt... year 'round. Only thing that changes is that in warm weather, I go to short sleeves.
I tried wearing shorts, once, but they said my pasty-white legs were scarin' the horses, so i quit.

Here at home it is mostly cargo shorts, tank top and t-shirt. At work its Carhartt double thigh (wranglers wont hold up), and heavy long sleeve shirt and work boots.

As a Houston transplant who moved West of I-35 now, I wore cargo shorts into my back yard last week, and discovered those stickers which stick to leg hair. The next day I wore jeans and 18" tall snake boots, and had to pull stickers from the boot laces and from the jeans prior to doing laundry, and they were hot when I wore them. I am now thinking of getting leather chaps to wear with my cargo shorts and ankle holster

I live east of 35 by about a 1/2 mile in the middle of Austin. Everybody else has nailed the high humidity + shorts relationship.
On a side note, I need to find a place that sells extra long t-shirts. I've up-sized to XL but if I have to reach for something the shirt tail rides up enough to completely obliterate my conceal-ability.
