I put that I don't even load a magazine in the weapon as a sign of protest that this gets brought up every 4 weeks or so.

I checked the rotation. It was my turn.

Yes, Always.
My favorite response this thread:
I know I can train to put my seat belt on really fast, but I wouldn't bet my life on my ability to put it on the split second before an accident.
So yes, one in the chamber.

As of now, there is one that does not chamber until they think they need it, and three that don't even put their magazine in. Would you four please explain your rationale? If you chose the magazine answer because you have a revolver instead of a SA, let us know that is why you answered that way.

I have a .357 magnum revolver in my pocket as I type this. It doesn't come with a magazine. Am I still in trouble?
And to answer the original question, YES, when I'm carrying a semi-auto, I carry one in the chamber, cocked and locked, the way John Moses Browning designed it to be.
And I would
still carry with one in the chamber even if my gun were a Block... I mean a Glock.
The best safety is the one between your ears. If you don't use it, all the mechanical devices in the world aren't going to save you from a blooming case of Glock/1911/Revolver Leg.

Yes.
I couldn’t believe my BIL who was a Marine (and has a CHL) actually gave me a hard time about it. I began to wonder if Marines carry their sidearms un-chambered, so I asked my Dad, who was also a Marine, but he said he never carried a sidearm when he was in the Corps…..though he was pretty sure they would be carried chambered.

I was a Marine and a Soldier. We never carried one in the chamber when in Garrison (Stateside). Even in Afghanistan it was frowned upon on the FOB, but they couldn't enforce it with my team (Special Operations, we were an attached unit). So I carried locked and loaded on and off base over there.

One in the chamber plus a full 14 round mag in the gun plus a spare full mag whenever practical (which is almost 100% of the time).

It's not
my turn next month, is it?

Thank you for answering my question. I have to admit I’m a little surprised. I guess this might explain my BIL’s attitude about this issue.

If you are not carrying with one in the chamber you are carrying an unloaded weapon. It makes absolutely no sense not to. If you plan to carry this way please PM me so I can give you the information you need to name me as your beneficiary.

My hubs, who believe it or not, isn't a gun person, had a wall eyed fit when he found out I always had one ready to pop. "That's sooooo dangerous", says he. My response to that was "it is dangerous for me NOT to have one in the chamber". He doesn't touch my hand guns except to clean them.

He likes to shoot the rifles. He doesn't touch the shotgun either as it is also loaded and ready for bear. BTW I also carry 2 extra mags, always. Now I can show him this survey so he gets the idea.
