Another vote for the Buckmark.
If you like wheel guns, the Ruger Single-Six is my real favorite.

The S&W Mod. 41, the most accurate handgun of any caliber I've ever shot. The only one I ever shot was U.S. Govt. property. A friend who was in the Marines was on some pistol team and brought it home and we went to the range with it. I drooled all over U.S. Govt. property. It's one of the 2 or 3 guns I've wanted the most but never bought because of the price. The High Standards from the 60's and 70's when they were really High Standard were pretty impressive too.

I liked the old Ruger autos but I'm not thrilled with the new ones. To echo LarryH, the Single Six is also a sweet shooter.

Buckmark here too!
It is by far the most reliable rimfire that I've ever fired.

I vote for the Buckmark over the Ruger for one reason, and one reason only. They are both great pistols with a lot of different variants available on the market. The Ruger has always seemed a little harder to disassemble and reassemble to me (pulling the disassembly lever and getting it back together is a skill that seems slightly different on each Ruger I have tried). The Buckmark comes apart by taking two screws out of the sight mount and goes together easier too.
I am sure you would be satisfied with either and I truly have had several of both.
I would also have to point out that I am impressed by the look and price of the Beretta Neos. I will probably try and buy one of them the next time I look for another 22. I can't say either way on it without having tried it though.

A few months back, I bought a Browning Buckmark Camper Bull Barrel Stainless with a green fiber optic front sight.
Now, I want a fiber optic front sight for all the firearms I own.
I found that after a thousand rounds through it (approximately) it performs almost flawlessly.
I say "almost" as after a couple of hundred rounds have gone downrange, the spent powder residue build up begins to impact function.

OP albertson:
You don't list your geography in your profile, but I am 1/2
surprised by your statement that you are having a hard time
sourcing 9MM and .45. Wal-Mart's are usually near everyone.
Granted, .45 has been hiding out.
But for the past month or two, I find that all Wal-Mart's are
positively overflowing with both 9MM and .40 ammo. That's
heartening because it will keep prices down.
Good luck on your .22 search. I have no experience with .22
handguns, so I will defer to all others' comments.

I was debating between the Ruger and Browning and went with the Browning because of the grip, just felt a lot better in my hand. Thumbs up for the Buckmark.

did you try the Ruger 22/45 or the standard type grip Ruger .22 cal pistol? There's a world of difference between the two as far as I'm concerned. The Ruger 22/45 was designed to mimick the standard 1911 grip, and more closely resembles the single stack grip firearms I have owned than any other .22 cal pistol on the market. On the other hand, the standard Ruger .22 cal pistol grips having the exaggerated angle are rather uncomfortable to me.

Kevinf2349 wrote:If you have a Glock you could try an Advantage Arms conversion kit. I have 2 one for a G19 and one for my G30.
I believe they make them for other makes of guns too.

Of course the price you pay for them you could almost buy a .22 for, but with a AA conversion you are still using the frame and so the 'feel' is still the same. ( a lot less weight and recoil though)

Not sure what OP's regular carry is, but if it's a Glock I'll second this recommendation. Just got one of these myself for my G23 and was very impressed after first time shooting it. Really helps a lot to maintain the same trigger and grip as your main carry gun. They also make these for 1911s.
